    Other classic football moments

The AFL and channel 9 ran a competition this year where they had 45 football moments. These were initially grouped into three similar moments, such as "best behind" (Plugger 1996, Breen 1966, Hudson 1970). However, I think there were a number of memorable football moments that didn't make the cut because they were more sordid.

I would like to compile a list of these more controversial football moments. Here's what I have so far:

Category: Best brawl. Despite being frowned upon by the powers-that-be, all-in brawls have always been a crowd favourite.
    • Several Hawthorn-Essendon brawls can be included here. 1984 Grand Final / 1985 Grand Final

Category: Best streaker. There have been some memorable streakers.
    • 1982 Grand Final - Helen Demidenko
    • 1993 Sydney vs St Kilda - the pig named "PLUGGA"
    • ???

Category: Best ground invasion. The players are usually found inside the fence and the crowd outside the fence. Sometimes, this isn't the case.
    • 1999 Sydney vs Collingwood - Plugger's 1300th goal
    • ???

Category: Most blood. These days we have a blood rule due to the rise of blood-borne diseases. Before the blood rule, players could remain on the field covered in blood.
    • ???

Category: Best dummy spit. Sometimes, players and officials just lose it.
    • Plugger throws a crutch at a journalist.
    • ???

Category: Best belting. Some players like to deal out a bit of biffo on the field.
    • 1965 preliminary final - an Essendon player is knocked out cold by a Collingwood player behind play.
    • 1983? A Collingwood player belts an umpire in a reserves game and receives a lengthy ban.

What else can we add to these categories? What other categories can we include?

Another "best ground invasion" occured at the end of the 1996 preliminary final. I was seated front row on the fence in the forward pocket where Plugger kicked that point and I was nearly crushed by the stampede rushing onto the ground. But I didnt care.

I think the categories need to be a little broader so that we can include at least three items in each category.

I think Dermie's run through the opposition huddle may have been covered in the 45 "official" moments.

Gestures to the crowd are common, I think we can easily get dozens.

            How about these as categories?
            • Best involvement of a nonplayer in play (Peter Carey 1999, Essendon runners)
            • Best gesture to the crowd. (Plugger 1994, there are others)
            • Best onfield bodily functions. (covers onfield puke and pee, as well as anything else usually done in the privacy of a toilet cubicle)
            • Best high contact. (Head stomp, king hits, eye gouging ... you get the idea)
            • Best spectator attack on a player (such as little old ladies belting players with umbrellas)

Can best dummy spit include coaches?

If so, I nominate Rodney Eade for his continued abuse of telephones!

                        Best gesture to the crowd:

Cressa grabbing his guernsey and shaking it at the Port fans, QF 2003

                        Best (scoreboard) belting:

Early memory I have of watching the Swans on TV before I jumped on board properly - Swans' flogging of the Crows by around 20 goals in Plugger's last outing (he kicked 8 IIRC) at the SCG in 1999.

For complete performances, Brisbane's 140-point or whatever it was win over the Crows last year.
