    AFLW R4 2024: Sydney v GWS Sun 22nd Sept 2024 3:05 PM Henson Park

Morphet was rested/managed last week, but worryingly still out this week. Interestingly they've included Bella Smith in the squad, so if LexiH has another game like last week we have a planB.
Speaking of Hamilton's, Cynthia is back - maybe.
32 year old Brooke Lochland has been omitted

Former Swan Aliesha Newman will play for GWS.

Scotty was noticably more circumspect, actually respectfull when discussing the Giants before this seasons derby game. Either he's worried about how we're going this year (why not I am), or maybe someone suggested he not repeat last years per-game rev up of the Giants. He did say he'd be interested in seeing how many fans show up, I'll be there - anyone else?
The Sydney Swans will return to Henson Park for the first time this season.

    Dear Confidential Diary,
This week Lexi Hamilton did not have a nightmare game, she was a solid contirbutor from the fist bounce onwards. Very well done (No need for PlanB). Her sister was great too, very Chloe-like..
Two other fringe dwellers also did very well indeed, Steane and Whelan.
Alsice Mitchell also took some good marks again.
Bec Privitelli had a 'mare, beaten often and thebn she tried an around the corner snap from straight in front. Ella Heads also had a game to forget.

    Non playing notes.
The umpires put in an epic performance of double standar umpiring in the second half. The lowlight was ehn a free was paid against MonHam when she was slung and had to leave the field for a concussion test. - the decision was reversed but the intial call was ridiculous.
Another great crowd at a Swans home ground, 5,530 attended according to officials. The Swans realy make the attendance of the rest of the AFLW games look pretty pathetic. And there's such a fantastic vibe, I'd recomend other RWOers give it a try. Also the coffeee truck showed up so my wife was very happy.
Sadly the Swans are ramping up the "game day experience" - "Sweet Caroline" has made an appearance and the PA is becoming more intrusive. Much more of that crap and they can kiss this inaugural member goodbye. There is a great vibe at Swans home games - TomHarley please keep your marketing twits from stuffing it up.

      Dear RnR

I have a confession to make: you carelessly left your confidential diary lying around and I have read it.

i watched match on TV. A good win for the Swans women though it got a bit tense near the end when the Giants came back at them. I thought the Swans handled the tight finish well, with what appeared fo be a set play. And.a good win is a good win.

i agree the Hamilton sisters were both excellent, Cynthia made the absence of Ally Morphett relatively painless. Laura Gardiner was again probably BOG, Mon Ham did some nice things (while not off having HIA) and great to see Sarah Grunden kick her first goal plus one. She looks to be a keeper.

i also agree that Privitelli’s kick for goal was bewildering. She is usually such a reliable kick — what was she thinking??

i felt a little sad seeing Aliesha Newman running around in her trademark helmet — but now in GWS colours not red.

The crowd looked great on the TV coverage. I have read that some of the Swans men were there to support the team. Also that both men’s and women’s teams are flying down to Melbourne together this week on a chartered flight. The women play the Dogs at 7.15 pm Fri at Whitten Oval so opportunity for fans to support tne women before The Big Match on Saturday.

it’s an exciting time for the whole Swans club.

Seemed like a pretty good win, but personally, I'm annoyed that the AFLW games aren't shown free via the AFL site any more. Instead, to watch the games, it requires a Kayo subscription: which I have absolutely no intention of getting. There might the occasional Swans game on free to air up here, but generally it's just the Suns and the Lions.

So unfortunately, my contribution to AFLW threads is going to be pretty limited.

Quelle horreur! I was so certain my Confidential Diary would remain safe from prying eyes if I left it in the SwansAFLW forum.

At least you do not have to suffer the commentary - apart from the Underwood style (yuk!), I have never heard as many player identification mistakes in one call including players from the wrong team!

Great crowd breaking the NSOval Game 1 mark.

AFLW matches are shown on Ch 7 Mate in Sydney. But perhaps not in Qld? However, I think you can live stream from the free 7Plus app.

It would have to be bad to surpass Taylor and Brayshaw on Friday night. They constantly got players wrong, most notably mixing up Gulden and McInerney a number of times. I think Taylor even referred to Campbell as Johnson?

Occasionally you get a Swans game on 7Mate, but it's usually the Queensland teams. I'll check out 7Plus though, as I did activate it yesterday to watch the SANFL GF.

How much of a delay is there before the match becomes available as a replay on afl.com? I don't think it's much so you can see it there if you don't want to pay fro a streaming service or go to the game.

                      I'd like to second this.
Henson Park is a great day out, in good weather at least. Like a massive community picnic with some great sport thrown in.
A decent craft beer choice at around 30% less than SCG prices helps.
Top tip - take one of those small folding stadium chairs - definitely enhances the experience. Oh, and stubby holders.
