Bombers' star Mark Mercuri is likely to miss the practice match against Sydney on Sunday week. Mercuri had a knee operation last week which was described by Essendon as minor.
A decision to operate was made after Mercuri's right knee continued to swell after training sessions.
Essendon communications manager Simon Matthews said:
"I would think that the Sydney match (16 February at North Shore Oval) would be out and then it would be a matter of whether he could play at Manuka Oval in the first round of the Wizard Cup."
