    Roos Reported

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Sydney coach Paul Roos will plead his innocence after being asked by the AFL to explain why he approached an umpire during Saturday's practice match against Melbourne at Canberra's Manuka Oval.

A complaint lodged by umpire Scott Jeffery says Roos approached the umpires at quarter-time. Club captains are the only team members authorised to speak with umpires during breaks in play.

But Roos said he was surprised by the charge. "The first I really heard of this was through a press release and I still haven't had anything official from the AFL," he said. "But I certainly didn't talk to any of the three officiating umpires."

Roos has until Friday to answer the charge.

Fremantle coach Chris Connolly is also the subject of an investigation after his heated exchange with the umpires during the Dockers' practice match against Port Adelaide.

AFL football operations manager Andrew Demetriou said he had yet to receive a written report about Paul Roos but he understood the Sydney coach had asked the umpires to stop bouncing the ball during the practice match against Melbourne at Canberra? Manuka Oval last Saturday.

?He wanted them to throw it up because he didn?t like the way they were bouncing it. Until I get the explanation and I get Paul?s response ? that will be dealt with by the end of the week,? Demetriou told 3AW's Sports Today.

The Herald Sun reports that an investigation into the actions of Paul Roos, alleged to have approached an umpire, cleared the Sydney coach of any untoward behaviour.

Roos was under investigation for approaching emergency umpire Scott Jeffery at quarter-time of a practice match against Melbourne.

But the league found there was "no aggressive intention" or breaking of AFL rules.
