He kept his eye on the footy. He also has genuine pace when running to a contest.

His somewhat awkward kicking style where he takes many steps to balance, tends to slow him down when running with the footy. That side of his game will improve with game time.

Let's not get TOO carried away now. I thought he was outstanding - but I think the sooner he gets rid of the ball the better for the team (and my nerves).

Unbelievable game. Couldn't believe how well he did - both making space for teammates and winning the ball at ground level. And using it well, almost without exception! And his job on Hansen was very solid, though the Eagles didn't kick it to him v often.

Exemplifies the great teamwork of the Swans that noone hesitated to kick it LRT when he had made best position to receive.

Congrats to Roos and the rest for sticking with him throughout the season.

It's actually one of the first games that I think this happened. Amazing that it all came together in a Grand Final!

I think LRT polled only one vote in the Norm Smith medal (where votes are allocated 3-2-1 by five people). To put it into perspective, that's more votes than about 35 players from both sides.

LRT finished fifth in the polling for the Age Grand Final award with about half of the pollsters giving him votes.

              Top effort.

At the SCG reception, LRT gave himself a tongue-in-cheek plug for taking out the eagle forwards in the pack so Leo could take that mark.
                Funny bloke.

Well played Barry - your dream came true with a vengeance on Saturday! I think a lot of us were wondering how he would perform on the biggest stage - he answered that pretty damn clearly.

Nothing to stop him fulfilling all of Barry's wildest dreams henceforth - I sincerely hope that's the case.

BTW, the match up on Hansen was a much better call than Gardiner, wasn't it?

I was just as concerned as anyone.

All he has to do is hold down CHB and become involved in attacking play. 75% of his grand final level for every game next year would be a nice target.

His best form is against 2nd stringers. In a few years he may be able to match it with the Gardiners, Reiwoldts, etc. Hopefully.

This was one of the greatest aspects of his game - he read the play beautifully, backed himself in one on ones & was a constant springboard.

Also marvelous was doing some of the "clever" things that we haven't always associated with LRT - I loved the moment when Wirra was free on the wing & LRT left his man & held Wirra up just enough to make the next kick difficult & w/o giving away 50m. Just perfect at a critical time of the game.

dont forget that this bloke still hasnt played much football , especially when you remember he didnt start until he was 16. he missed all last year with injury as well.
a slow start to this year but developed into an integral part of our team . is last 12 weeks were great. and saturday we saw an awkward cygnet turn into a graceful swan...what an effort . well done LRT , u r a champion and a swans premiership player

unfortunately for west coast, gardiner played as if he was matched up with LRT, not barry. with a height advantage (plus arm length) of 15 cm he really should have tried just standing tall in the contest. by leading (really, really badly) he handed away all his natural advantage. extremely dumb play and i would be filthy on him if i was a west-coast supporter.

edit just to say it was an absolutely top effort by barry all day.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

good point. he ran underneath a number of kicks (with a little help from leo). even in the clumsy free against jolly he'd already gone too far. & then the kick was a shocker

Got on here to late to see this.

LRT you bloody star. I love how he turned Gardiner on a 20 cent piece and had the coolness to kick it to Goodes on the lead.

Reminded me of Dustin Fletchers performance in the 93 GF when he was thrown in as an in experienced 17 year old and performed well.

Kudos to Barry as well for keeping the faith with him.
