After attending the G yesterday and sitting in M34 Ponsford end, I can tuly say it has the best facilities of any stadium I have ever been to. Queues for bars, food and toliets moved quickly, not a bad seat in the house, places to sit down and have a bite to eat.

The SCG is an absolute embarassment in comparison

Agree, and I made that known in my responses in the club's members survey. I don't know if the club getting constant feedback about the pathetic standard of facilities at the SCG will have any effect on improvements, but if we don't say our bit, we have no hope at all.

It's amazing the difference between areas at the SCG. Our normal seats are in the Noble stand and the facilities there are first class. Heaps of bars, food outlets, grass area, dining room, toilets etc.

We then sat in the Churchill for the Geelong game and the facilities were terrible. Long queues, bugger all toilets, stairs not escalators...

the SCG is the worst ground in the AFL. pure and simple.

its a crappy place to get to and from, in and out, the line up's are just incredible for both the in's and out's.

the place needs to be almost rebuilt. cant touch the ladies and members stands, but the other half of the ground needs re-building.

i love the place for all the memories it has given me, but its past its used by date.

              see ya!

That is why Telstra Stadium has it over the SCG.

I don't have a problem with Telstra Stadium nowadays,it does make a great AFL venue and i've learned to appreciate it.

I don't know whether to move all our games out there in the future but expect an increase of games moved there next year.

The MCG does have great facilities.

I love the SCG but i am getting sick of the queues and the confined spaces around that ground like the walkways.
Well done Craig Bolton for getting the co- captaincy in 2008.

There are no plans to renovate the SCG on the cards are there? I love the place but it could certainly use some fixing up in areas.

After watching the football from the MCG - I realise that Telstra Stadium is a pile of ********e. There is no other way about it.

The SCG does need a face lift, take down the Noble/Bradman/Dally Messenger stands and make a new three story stand that could hold 10k more. And also give it a purpose built members area.

The things that the MCG and SCG have in common and that Telstra Stadium lacks is locality. It is crap to get to and there are no pubs for a stroll back into the city.

And anyone that drives to a game is crazy and the sooner that petrol prices reach $5 a L the better.

[B]the mcg is a seething cauldron - to be there at a sellout is to be at one of the most intense and massive things that there is to see. telstra has nothing of the atmosphere even at a sellout.

I have to agree. Saw the Bledisloe cup game this season at a sold out TS this season, and the atmosphere was nothing compared to Geelong at the SCG, or even WCE at the SCG earlier in the home & away, and as for Saturday ... simply no comment.

I was also hugely impressed with the facilities at the MCG - getting a beer / having a pee etc was massively easier than a sold-out TS; probably because at the 'G they are just more used to big crowds on regular occasions.

Swans to stay at the SCG!!!

All i have heard, Vivien is the plans to put a new grandstand above the Yabba's Hill seating.

Not too sure if they are still going ahead with that

                        Anyone know?

I think we should play there from 2007. With our success this year there will be added interest from now on. Bigger Ground = bigger crowd.

Not until we have strong "loyal" support from the Western Suburbs.

We are still mostly a North Shore/City/Eastern Suburbs club still, I think it would be suicide to even contemplate a move to Telstra full time just because it is bigger.

Telstra works perfectly for the big hyped up matches. Only consistent demand over a few seasons for more seats should act as a driver to even look at it as a possibility.

Perhaps we could look at more flexibility in terms of moving matches at short notice in the future (i.e in 2005, the WCE match may have drawn 60 at Telstra instead of the 35 plus it did at SCG).

Well, I am happy to go out to either. Because of my location, Homebush is actually a lot easier to get to, but either is fine.

In terms of crowd size, and potential support out west, you would think the club would seriously look at moving matches out to Telstra Stadium as the situation dictates. Keep it 3-4 right now, but I reckon it could get out to 5-6 if the performance on-field is maintained. TS with a 40,000 crowd is pretty good for atmosphere (as long as they don't open the top levels, to keep the crowd in one area), and obviously is the only choice if the expected turnout is higher than that.

Neither ground is perfect - The SCG has tradition & character, but archaic facilities and godawful traffic. Telstra Stadium's facilities are modern and impressive, and the public transport is appreciably better, but it's out in the middle of no-where, and it NEEDS a big crowd to feel right.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

I think we have the right mix of matches now. We must remember Sydney is a fickle sporting town. If we have a poor season the crowds will fall and while thats not so bad at the SCG its not a good look at Telstra.

Keep the 3 Blockbuster games and any Finals at Telstra.
