Precisely. Which is basically what I did (cry and chant 'sydney', I mean).

Fwiw, I don't advocate the SMFC on the back of the jumper. Smacks a little too much of tokenism for my liking. People who love the club know the heritage and are mindful of the present.

Swans bandwagon. Toot Toot! Get on board!

Ahh, Bobby's alright. It took me a while to stop saying Footscray and I still say North Melbourne, so it figures that someone used to saying "South Melbourne" for most of their life might never change over to the new name. I don't think he was being spiteful or anything.

This team is Sydney's team, they are the Sydney Swans. The history and origins are important, but should not blind our vision of the future.

As a member who can remember and was around at the time of the move, if they didn't go, we had no team, its as simple as that. If you abandoned them then thats OK, and if you chose to come back on board later then thats OK as well, but the one thing everyone must always remember is that whilst it would have been the most romantic fairy tale of all for the team to break the drought as South Melbourne, the drought has been broken now, the history remains, its the name and home ground that have changed.

I love that the jumper that we wear is the most recognised jumper in Australian sport, I love that we are a club that has supporters and members in large numbers in 2 cities, I love the fight for recognition that we have had to endure in both cities, I love the desperate struggles for survival we have had and won, I love the hatred that we now bring out in opposition supporters, particularly those from the Melbourne mafia, Coll, Ess, Carl, and most of all I love this club.

If you support the club, I feel an empathy toward you, no matter where you are from. (There was a post on here about a supporter that lives in Turkey. Why shouldn't that supporter enjoy the drought breaker as much as me. I sure as hell enjoyed last years World Series, and I've never been to Boston.) It is irrelevent where you are from. The main point is you are both supporters of the club.

Its been over 24 years since the club moved to Sydney. Almost 20% of its existence has been as a club based in Sydney. This in itself is a very rich history, and we can not dismiss it just because its happened in Sydney. IMO the club has done everything it possibly can to maintain its links with the past, and I can honestly say I do not believe it could do much more. Looking forward is the important thing now.

To all who support the club, be it as a member or as a fan or as a "bandwagoner" welcome to The Nation.

Clifford, if you're out there, you're an A-Grade ********head. And if you're not, I wonder if you'll have the guts to post after I write into the paper tomorrow challenging you to come here and back up your idiotic statement.

There's enough of the premiership glory to go around. We'll even let morons like yourself bask in it... and all your bandwagon jumping mates. Get back in your box.

To even take notice of this crap means you are getting sucked in and fanning the flames of the Syd v Melb garbage. By posting this you are doing far more harm than good to our club's unity.

<b>Pleeeaase</b> don't respond to this type of thing and give these people oxygen. You are falling into their trap.

The only way to deal with these things is to either ignore or laugh it off. Our FC clearly promotes itself as being established in 1874 as SM, but now as Sydney's team.

Who cares what some moron thinks about our (clearly not his) FC?

                    IGNORE IT. ENJOY THE PREMIERSHIP.

Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.

Perhaps I am getting sucked in. But these people, if ever their 'concerns' are taken seriously, are dangerous to the club.

I'd love Clifford to come here. He might see the club for what it is rather than what he'd like to pretend that it is.

Fair enough - although he calls us that at other times as well.

On GOM he actually said he was a South Melbourne supporter all those years ago which I didn't know.

People should not get confused with Kirky's "this is for the Bloods" as meaning this is for South Melbourne. It was a reference to the playing group first and foremost and Swans fans in general.

Our club was a foundation club and we have a rich history.

We all support the same club so what's the problem?

By having strong support in Sydney and Melbourne, it means we'll have 18 home games per season.
"As everyone knows our style of football is defensive and unattractive, and as such I have completely forgotten how to mark or kick over the years" - Brett Kirk

                              Hmmm... touchy subject.

Herald Sun should know better than to print such drivel. There's always going to be some idiot willing to say anything in order to get his name in the paper - it's up to the paper to use common sense as to whether they print it.

I'd like to see Doctor J.'s post printed as a reply.

Guys dont worry about Clifford (I mean who calls themselves Clifford?) he was probably a bit miffed that his exhibition on Saturday afternoon of Antique teaspoons from New Zealand in "Potts Pt Darling" was interupted by the Grand final - he obviously had one too many Pimms and lemonade and his black skivvy was starting to strangle him. He had to vent!

There was another old bat yesterday banging on about the parade and how disrepectful it was because the Vets couldnt march on D-Day - well with absolute respect to our diggers, they do get to march every year and I for one think its fantastic.

But how often do the Swans win a flag?????????? so why not a parade.

Ignore these sad people with the contempt they deserve.
