Injuries. This year we had few players forced out due to injuries, and this had a bit to do with our triumph.

As to other sides, the three sides we beat on our way to the premiership are probably going to be our biggest threats next year.

Wet Toast - they will be thereabouts next year. You can bet that their failure this year will spur them on next year.

St Kilda - Currently have problems managing soft tissue injuries. If they solve this problem they will go deep into September next year.

Geelong - Two Abletts. Their time is probably not next year, but with two young Abletts they will be a serious threat. I expect them to win a premiership at around the time the Ablett brothers are at the peak of their career, about 2009.

Adelaide - They loom as another threat. Like us they have a defensive game plan. Defense won it for us this year.

Other sides that will be good chances to make the finals:

Fremantle - Came close this year, and will probably sneak into the finals next year if they can be more consistent at home.

Melbourne - It's silly I know, but one cannot write off the Dees in an even-numbered year. If he gets a steady supply, Neitz is as devastating as Hall in front of goal. Robertson is proving to be quite handy in front of goal for them too.

Essendon - Don't make the mistake of writing off the Bombers just because they finished 13th this year. Essendon are one of those sides that often make the finals when pundits write them off.

Port Adelaide - They are difficult to read. They may be on the way down the ladder, or they may have simply had a bad year.

Biggest threat ? Us, supporters, becoming like the Ainters ... overconfident ... Our boys doing the same ... Our boys thinking we are happy now after 72 years and dropping a gear (after all, they've got us a cup) ... Let's hope Roos and the coaching staff can counter those thought processes ...

Other than that - Injuries and the ability to hide them under increased media scrutiny and working on a new structure on the field with new players picked up in the various cattle markets about to be held.
