Originally posted by NMWBloods Leo had plenty of time as he had a mark, so I don't think time is a factor. I think there is more pressure on when shooting at goal than when delivering to someone over 50m from their nearest opponent. Also, kicking to someone that far in the clear doesn't require a precision kick nor a high kick nor a penetrating kick, which shots at goal do.
Could not agree more. You know what you're talking about mate, which is more than I can say for others on the board.

At what point did I say he should be dropped? All I said was that unforced errors should be eliminated if we want to become a great team. Barry made three bad ones, that were not particularly difficult. He needs to work on that. A few other players made a couple, which they should also work on. A few happen here and there, but there is not much excuse for regular ones.

It seems to me that the key to success this season and the end of last season is the freedom to have a go and if you make mistakes you won't get dragged. That's what happened under Eade which ends up in boring conservative losses most weeks.
Keep up with the running flair as it won't take long for the other sides wake up and we may lose the element of surprise.
What does "I don't think that is particularly acceptable, although I can live with it if he doesn't do those clangers again" mean?
i can virtually guarantee you that he, along with every other member of the team will make bad errors again, so if he makes one again - does this mean you would drop him?
There appears to be this implication, otherwise are you considereing suicide?
"As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.
Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.

Sometimes I wonder... I'm not sure precisely what I meant but I don't think unforced errors of the magnitude of Barry's on the weekend are acceptable. Occasionally is fine, but if he continued to do so regularly then dropping him would be a definite option. The sheer frustration of watching AFL footballers kick worse than half the members of the crowd (and remember there were a lot of mums in the crowd, so that's saying something about the kicking!!) just annoys me a little too much at times.

as with bear, i got the impression that u wanted leo dropped... i think he definitely has earned his right to be in the team...
i liked what brereton had to say with the commentating, his general gist was that we wont beat the lions playing conservative football rather risky footy and these risks are gonna sometimes end up as mistakes
Yes ofcourse leo is having a great year, one of the first selected in the team, he is going to make mistakes the way he plays ofcourse , the whole farce about leo is that he wasnt taking a risk, he wasnt under any pressure, he was kicking to a man all by himself and he kicked it way out of bounds on the full.
You will find it hard to see a bigger blooper of the year.
why do some many "fans" concentrate on the negative.
swans play a fast breaking, back yourself, running game.which is not only winning games but is pleasing to watch.
janpa had a good sensible post.
wonder how many knockers can remember 5 really good passes and passages of play??

He makes these mistakes every week.

And this style of play has what to do with a player missing a target, who is metres in the clear, not moving, when the kicker has a mark and is under no pressure?
These strawman arguments are giving me the @@@@s. The style of play has nothing to do with Leo's blooper (or his other two for that matter), as Cheer Cheer has already noted.
I've already commented on the positive aspects. I like the way their playing and have said as much elsewhere.
Are you only a "fan" if you ignore the bad things? Are you meant you to only say "ra ra let's go, great effort" and never criticise? What a crock.

Now that's too much, Cheer Cheer. Every round you see otherwise very competent players kick OOBOTF when not under pressure. I've certainly seen Kelly do it, and I'm pretty sure Buckley has already done it at least once this year. Barry's kick was poor, but hardly a hanging offence.
Appalling skills come in all shapes . . . like Goodes missing a set shot from ten metres against Carlton, or Hall handpassing after marking 15 metres out, or Cresswell (2 weeks in a row) kicking to a contest inside the defensive 50, or Kennelly stepping outside the goal-square when kicking in. All inexplicable no-brainers.
There'll be plenty of worse mistakes than Leo's this season.

exactly - the focus on Leo is ridiculous
