    Is Tadhg coming home

Let me know what ye all think

Kennelly still craves All-Ireland with Kerry

    Tadgh Kennelly
    Friday, September 30, 2005

History-maker Tadhg Kennelly has admitted that he still harbours a deep desire to win a senior All-Ireland medal with the Kingdom.

The Listowel native recently become the first Irishman to win an Australian Football League premiership medal, but has another dream he?d like to fulfil:

?The All-Ireland is still the big ambition. There will always be something missing.

?At the very least, I?d love to at least try for one with Kerry.

?My contract is up at the end of the year with the Swans and I don?t know what to do yet. I?ll be home for the next few weeks and I?ll be talking to a few people about it.?

EDIT: Maybe that's not very charitable, but wow!

According to reports, his contract is finished next year not this year. I reckon he'll go then, especially if we win another one.

I know that he has always said that he wanted to win an All-Ireland, but I would be suprised to see him leave after this contract is up. He is a young guy that will have a lot of money thrown at him to stay and his age can probably afford one more contract with the Swans before going back and still having a shot for an All-Ireland.

Beano- what is the average retirement age for GAA players?
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I think he could go either way. He might decide that he's won an AFL premiership against the odds, now it's time to try for an All-Ireland title.

Or maybe the win will inspire him to go for more AFL premierships. It's all up to him really.

I reckon we will keep him for another 2 years. Once our "window" starts to close again, he might decide it's time.

A couple of years ago, I thought that I would happily trade him for a premiership (in that I would be happy to see him go, having helped us to a flag) - and nothing has changed in my mind.

Few would begrudge him the chance to fulfil his boyhood dream.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

If he goes, he'll be walking away from about two million dollars by leaving at age 25. I think he'll go to about 29 or 30, and then head back. Kerry seems to make the All-Ireland final just about every year anyway. He could easily play in two or three if he stays for another five years.

Quick Charlie.... add "We love Tadhg" to your thingy at the bottom. That might be the deciding factor.

As much as I would hate to see him go home I can see it happening sooner than later. I came to that conclusion at the Club Champion dinner last night. His parents were sitting with him and most of the evening they were not really into it and at times appeared reasonably disinterested. It is fair enough to say the whole thing was foreign to them (says he stating the obvious So the problem becomes Tadgh is doing all these great things in AFL which means something to us but maybe not as much to his countrymen and those closest to him. However I do agree with all of you who say he can stay another 5 years and he'd still be young enough - and most likely fitter than anyone else Kerry would put on the paddock - might even take some of our training tips back with him :-)

It would be a huge loss as I don't think he has even come close to fulfilling his potential in AFL. One would think that he could retire from AFL at 28 or 29 and still have a few years left playing Gaelic. Should still be more than quick enough, and I thought he was right into the lifestyle etc. Isn't he an aussie passport holder now?

He has citizenship, an Aussie girlfriend and a sizable mortgage. All should help keep him in Sydney for another couple of years.

Yeah, nobody has ever sold a house in Sydney.

<--- Do you ever get sick of using this?

I merely wonder if he would have brought an expensive home if he planned to leave the city any time in the near future?

Sydney is expensive and he has money so why rent. It's an easy investment choice in today's market; you don't need to hold onto a property for 20 years to make money on it.

I think that he might go home with the intention of coming back to Sydney when he has won an All Ireland, which might only take a year as Kerry are always one of the top teams.

Well, he came to Australia because he wanted to be a "professional" footballer, as I understand it. In that light, I'd be surprised too if he left before he was 30-odd years of age.

If he does go, pity we can't get a trade deal though...
