I think it's strong enough to start up on its own. I think the field is larger than a soccer/rugby pitch, but perhaps a more condensed game (say with 12 rather than 16 on field) could easily take off.
Whether the AFL and GAA would allow that to happen is another thing entirely.

I don't think that sort of game would have any real lasting appeal lets face it the current hybrid game isnt much chop now.
I would never trade Aussie Rules for International Rules and I'm sure the Irish feel the same way. I think it does level the playing field though, and would love to see other countries roll out an International Rules team instead of that Aussie Rules dealie they had early this year.
