Troy Luff Medal - Rounds 9 and 10

Welcome to the fifth instalment of the Troy Luff Medal for 2005! Tonight we review round 9 against the Bulldogs, and round 10 against St Kilda; a game that represents a turning point in Sydney's Premiership season.

Before we start, let's review the voting tally at the end of round eight:
    20 - Jude Bolton
    17 - Brett Kirk
    11 - Craig Bolton
9 - Luke Ablett, Leo Barry, Adam Goodes, Darren Jolly
8 - Nick Davis, Barry Hall
5 - Paul Williams, Tadhg Kennelly
    4 - Amon Buchanan
    3 - Ryan O'Keefe
    2 - David Spriggs, Michael O'Loughlin
    1 - Jarrad McVeigh

The Swans played 'away' to the Western Bulldogs at the SCG in round nine, with a chance to win their third straight game and re-enter the top eight. It was the Bulldogs, however, who got the jump early, leading by 17 points at quarter time. Michael O'Loughlin put the Swans in control with four goals in the third quarter (he kicked five for the match), but the Dogs again closed to within one point in the last term. Enter Luke Vogels, playing only his third game, who kicked three last quarter goals to steady the ship for the Swans. Sydney won by 13 points.

    The votes:
    5. Michael O'Loughlin
    4. Brett Kirk
    3. Jude Bolton
    2. Luke Vogels
    1. Craig Bolton

Congratulations to all, particularly Luke Vogels who polls votes for the first time.

In round ten, the Swans finally played their first game in Melbourne for the year, against the inconsistent but star-studded Saints. A win would put the Swans at 6-4 and consolidate their spot in the top eight. Unfortunately, it was the 'ugly', indirect and ineffective Swans who arrived at Docklands. The Swans lacked a recognisable attacking structure, and had no answer for Fraser Gehrig, who celebrated his 200th game with seven goals. Nevertheless, Sydney were able to close to within seven points in the third term, before slumping to a 43-point loss. Adam Goodes, with 22 touches, was the standout Swan.

    Round ten votes:
    5. Adam Goodes
    4. Jude Bolton
    3. Craig Bolton
    2. Brett Kirk
    1. Barry Hall

    Congratulations to all five players.

So, with ten rounds down and approaching the half-way mark of the season, the Boltons and Brett Kirk continue to dominate the Troy Luff Medal. Here's the updated vote tally:
    27 - Jude Bolton
    23 - Brett Kirk
    15 - Craig Bolton
    14 - Adam Goodes
9 - Luke Ablett, Leo Barry, Darren Jolly, Barry Hall
    8 - Nick Davis
    7 - Michael O'Loughlin
5 - Paul Williams, Tadhg Kennelly
    4 - Amon Buchanan
    3 - Ryan O'Keefe
2 - David Spriggs, Luke Vogels
    1 - Jarrad McVeigh

Join me tomorrow night as we review two victories that promised greater things to come in our Premiership season; the round 11 win over Carlton, and the round 12 victory over Fremantle. Hope your enjoying the count.

I'm glad I didn't have to choose the votes for round 10 I had enough problems coping with the feral St Kilda supporter behind us

There is no better barometre on how a player is going with the TLM. Everyone was saying how good Jude Bolts had been leading up to mid season.

C Bolts was another one who did not get any kudos in the media but his fans knew the value he has to the team being top 3 at this stage.

Monty and Pebbles should also rise considerably but have probably given the other too much head start.

That St Kilda game was clearly the lowlight of 2005. Pity I wasted my time flying down for it (it was bloody freezing in Melbourne that night too). I hope that after this thread I will never think of it again, to be forever buried by our magnificent premiership and our preliminary final 4th quarter slaughter of the feral St Kilda scum.

Rubbish, I went to the Collingwood Hawks game earlier that day, sat high, high, freaking high in the members stand and thought that could have been the coldest day at the footy EVER.

It was cold...and that night at the Dome, geesh, I don't quite know how the dew managed to get in there and rest on our legs, but it did!

It wasn't dew, it was tears from how bad we played...I know...it happened to me too

I didn't think the Melb game was that cold...but I would rather have been in there because it was raining outside IIRC.
