Realistically he could go back when he's 32 and still win an All Ireland. As a professional he'd be a different class to the other players.
Realistically he could go back at 28 and be told to go back to Oz because hes not good enough and has lost touch with the basic skills.
Aussie Rules has few of the skills required for Gaelic Football. He would have lost touch with the skill required for a tackle and solo.
Personally i can see him coming back and not getting a place even if he comes back when hes 28.
He'll stay for at least another 3 years for a) lifestyle: sun vs cold and rain b) stay with his mates c) money.
I don't think you understand why he wants to come back nor do i think you understand the lure of the game hes left.
Its not just a sport, especially in Kerry. Its a way of life and it defines peoples lives here.
You might think that money or better weather or lifestyle would keep anyone in a place but you don't understand the place your comparing it too.
Players in the GAA like myself lose money by participating. We lose almost all our free time, our social lives, our other hobbies. From late January till early December i don't drink, nor do i have time for anything besides work, training and matches. And we do all that because of our love of the game, our loyalty to our club and our county.
Winning a Grand Final was probably nice for Tadhg but its nothing compared to winning an All-Ireland. And he knows that if he leaves it too late he won't get on the Kerry panel and might never get his chance.
When your saying he would just walk onto the Kerry team at 28 or 32 remember this. There are players who can't get on the Kerry team who would be the automatic selection for any other team in the Country. Kerry could put out 4-5 fairly equally matches teams if they wanted.
i.e > They don't need Tadhg, especially a slow Tadhg who doesn't remember how to tackle.

Weren't they always telling us that the tackling in the International Rules series is foreign to the Irish, because their game has gone beyond tackling. I thought from watching Gaelic that they bumped rather than tackled

I meant forgotten how to tackle our way.
To tackle in Gaelic Football takes quite a lot of skill and is also quite difficult if the man in possession is good, much of that becomes an action you have become so used to its subconcious.
I think Tadhg would get very frustrated having to tackle our way after tackling under Aussie Rules.

Are you saying that because he's Irish he can't adapt to change???
