What about when we effectively traded Kepler Bradley to the Dons for some hack who only played a couple of games.

Terry Daniher was woeful when he played with the Swans...going to Essendon was good for him.

Hardly what i would call the worst trade ever - who's to say that we would have even drafted Black if we'd kept the pick? Besides there were 30 picks before Black was taken, without checking what trades occurred I would guess that 15 clubs stuffed up by overlooking him

Well in the last 15 years anyhow.

The trade, whatever it was, to get Andrew Bomford back from SNDon.
a bit harsh doctor j - it was a small fry trade and bomford is hardly the worst player to wear the red and white in the last 15 years, whilst he was by no means great, he was an honest goer

There's a book called Hall of Shame that was released in about 1995 that shows how badly we've done in the past with trading away players. They managed to pick two sides, one pre-1982 and one post 1982. Both would have been handy sides.

I know the trade system came in about 1986, but prior to that clubs still swapped players.

I think our worst trade is - trading away four Danihers for some hack.

But we had previously traded Bomford to SNDon. So we knew he was a dud. To then pick him up again. Stupid.

Agree with you about the Hawking-Green/Pick 31 trade.

True, a big call to call it a bad trade because the club has stated that at Pick 31 it wouldn't of selected Black because they didn't rate him as highly as Brisbane did. So for all we know if we kept the pick and selected say Johnny Noname instead we would of been no worser off.

The worst buy that I can recall was a bloke called Adrian Battiston
                      from Melbourne in the 80's.

In his early days he was an overrated serviceable rover. We got him at a ripe old age and paid some staggering figure for him. A genuine hack when we got him.

Saw him on Fox Footy the other night in a game. I get the squirmy guts when I see him play. You know how when you pick up a player from another side and you get just a little excited at least, that they might add something.

No such excitement about him. Only despair that was duly justified.

                        Trades

If we're counting Carey and Longmire then we have to include JAMES HIRD as he was also able to be picked up by the Swans.

Would have loved to see Hird play for the Swans.

We didn't trade Bomford to Essendon. We'd delisted him at the end of 1994 and he then played for our reserves in 95 and 96 as a supplementary list player before being drafted by Essendon at pick 25.

The only memory I have of Brent Green was the team bus leaving without him at an aftermatch... and watching him chase it through the carpark (he caught it just before it turned into Lakeside Drive if I recall).

If only he had run that quickly on the footy field.

dermie?...he played what very few games for his one year and that would have cost us a bit of moula to get him here ?

was a stupid decision to ever put him in the red and the white for the year
