Reminds of the scene in Dumber and Dumber when Jim Carrey ask these 2 European girls wher their from and they reply in an accent, Austria. Jims character then says "well then, G'day mate"

No but they are louder and hence sound more stupid, but by far the most ignorant people that I have come across about countries other than their own are the Yanks.

When Australians spout off about how dumb Americans are, I like to ask them how many states there are in the US. It amazes me how often people say "52".

Or, just for a change, I ask them basic things about some other country, like Spain or Germany. Australians have as many ignorant silly people as America, the difference is we get exposed to more America because America is the Middle Kingdom and we're a peripheral nation forever staring outwards.

I deal with people from the states all the time - one guy from Chicago was hell bent on getting a surveyor appointed who - on his list of surveyors - was in Melbourne. The job was in Broome - by this guys reckoning and looking at the map - it should only take the surveyor about 4 hours to drive from Melbourne to Broome! I had to explain that his bearings were out some what and I got "are you sure about that?"

Yet another colleague in New York is on the same wave length as we are - and she thinks that Paul Roos is hot - so she is heading in the right direction.
