Sydney Swans Team List 2006

The Swans website has revealed the numbers each player will wear in 2006 and there has been the odd change.
What do you think?
I note that 14 stays in retirement and it is joined by Stuey Maxfield's 11, while the average age of our squad must be among the youngest in the competition, with only one player (Paul Williams) aged 30 or over as at February 1, 2006.
Our average age is 22.21, or 23.05 if you don't count our nine rookies.
Even Hawthorn, Geelong or St Kilda would have trouble matching this I reckon.

What does it really matter? The difference in average age is very insignificant. What is it, maybe 100 days between first and last? Pfft.

The age of the best 15-20 players is probably more important, but seeing as how I don't have enough interest to sit down and work it all out for 16 teams... mid-table is exactly where we should be. We're at our peak, we're a proven premiership-quality side and we have another two, maybe even three years in which to challenge for premierships. Good position.

Fair dinkum that sucks. Stewie, in Jack Dyer's great parlance, was a good average player with leadership qualities. No superstar by any stretch of the imagination.

I think it would/should be a one year retirement in the manner the number 8 was retired for a season after Cresswell's retirement because of the respect he had earnt from those at the club.

Perfect way to honor a retiring club captain who had the highest respect from all of his teammates for his leadership and workrate around the club, regardless of how good he was on the field (which was better than "a good average player").

I agree with Robbieando on this one. Let his number have a year off as a mark of respect. "good-average player" is a bit harsh. Maybe he was over his last year or so but I have always thought he was a high quality footy player.
