Sure, I can't stand that backstabber coach of theirs, but I'm not that averse to the rest of them.

My feelings towards them are really fuelled from last year...their arrogance in 7 quarters of football that I saw in Melbourne. Rude, abusive, arrogant...and that was just the nicer ones...but as we all know they were shut up very quickly in one 10 minute burst of Swans brilliance.

I was also ridiculed by a Saint supporting bank teller that served me on the way to the PF, which reminds me I must wear my Premiers T-shirt and cap into that bank one day, without saying a word.

Saints fans in the past were never that bad in my experience. In fact the South Melbourne and St Kilda cheersquads got on really well in the 70's and 80's

Same here, also the semi final the year before when they thrashed us and Saints fans ridiculed us. Nasty people.

Traditionally they were out great Lake ovals and we nearly always beat them. If I felt sorry for any other team (other than ours) it was them. However, under the leadership of StKilda President Lindsay Fox they stole Sylvio Foshini and Paul Morewood from us and got them for nothing at a time when we were at our lowest ebb and fighting for survival in Sydney. They encouraged and in fact financed those two players to take action in the Vic Supreme Court against the clearance rules. This enabled them to transfer to StKilda for nothing. I was very disappointed in what StKilda did and also in the other VFL clubs in not supporting us. The otherclubs were more interested in not having the rules collapse. A quiet understanding that clubs would not play players who took Supreme Court action to get a clearance would IMO have stopped these and any other players in their tracks.

Anyway StKilda's attitude was that they couldn't give a @&$% about us and since then they have been at the top of the list of clubs I wish all the worst for. Beating them in the finals was joy to me. I went to the game in a train filled with StKilda supporters who seems to think all they needed to do was turn up to win.
I also went home on a train and StKilda fans on the train were wery wery quiet.

My hatred of St Kilda and their fans is firstly due to their arrogance. How can a bunch of supporters be so cocky when they haven't won anything for 40 years? They thought their name was already engraved on the premiership cup and you will recall most were talking about grand final tickets / complaining about allocations well before the preliminary final. The decision of the clown who coaches them to "rest" Hamill in that game reaked of contempt for the opposition. Remember this is the joker who sent his team to the movies before the 2004 match against us.

Secondly, it's their out and out abuse of the draft system which I would hate to see rewarded. Tanking for two seasons in a row to secure priority picks treats your supporters and the rest of the competition with contempt. It's as close as you can get to cheating exept its legal under the AFL's lousy rules.

Sydney's premiership, achieved without the blatent rort of "bottoming out", deserves more praise from the Melbourne football mafia, who will nio doubt waste thousands of column inches this year praising the "extraordinary talent" on St Kilda's list and the "exciting future" of Hawthorn.

I agree with comments on the arrogance of Saints fans.

I'm less convinced that St Kilda deliberately tanked. I think they were just terrible for a while. They at least made an effort to bolster their playing list with experienced players while also getting low draft picks - the likes of Gehrig, Voss, Powell, and Hamill - indicating that they weren't trying to be totally uncompetitive.

Don't get me started on what the Hawks are doing at the moment though. They seem to be set on deliberately trying to be as bad as they possibly can over several years by willingly getting rid of mid-aged and still competent players (eg Hay, Thompson, Lonie) and not bolstering their young list with competent experienced players from other clubs. It may be hard to attract out-and-out stars through trade but you can certainly get players of the calibre of Jolly, Saddington, Moloney, Pickett who are good enough to stop a team being completely uncompetitive while the youngsters develop.

If the Hawks' strategy nets them a premiership I will be mightily mightily pissed off.

Their recent management has mostly hits however with two huge misses: Watson and Blight. Watson caused the demise of Plympton and co, Blight was appalling, and only quick(ish) and brave management minimised the damage. The jury is out over Thomas however may return to the court-room quick-smart if they fail to make a GF this year.
I can't help but have a soft spot for the Saints - my best man is fanatical over them and exhibits all those traits commented on above. Must be the underdog

Hear hear. IMO it's FAR worse than the Saints. They are planning for future years and rorting the system more than the Saints ever did. I actually hate the Hawks 2nd most ever, just behind the Kangas. That may be clouding my judgement somewhat.

Carlton and Collingwood were no better last year when it came to tanking. It was like a bottom of the table competition to see who could finish bottom without looking blatantly obvious. Sadly, the AFL hasnt changed the extra draft pick rule which rewards tanking. The Hawks did fight to retain Everitt (unfortunately).

I have bought three, yes three, pairs of those VB thongs. I lost one from my first pair in the Far Q (somebody is now no doubt scouring Maroochydore for the other one!), am wearing a second pair now and have a reserve as well still in the packet.

I reckon they're kitschy, funny and self-deprecating.

My sister just reckons they're for bogans.
