well, i guess we either shut the site down or tell roosy we've found him 500+ walk-up starts in his premiership team.
then again, i think it would be worth trying 15-16 players on field so what would i know

I guess my point was that it is now 4 1/2 months and a premiership later...get over one mistake, when there were others that made many more in the same match...MOL being one of them.

Not entirely true. It was not the decision that was faulty but the execution.

The main fault with the pass was that it was too short. If it had dropped slightly beyond Leo (which I'm sure is where Ablett intended) then there would have been no problem. But it dropped so far short of Leo that he couldn't even get to the contest.

I still stand by my belief that Ablett's pass was a massive @@@@-up. But, guess what, he is human like all of us - just chill Phil....

We are all entitled to an opinion, which are like armpits - everyone has two and they stink....

Across the face of goal, over the head of an unmarked opposition player is generally a low percentage option.

I'm not sure I understand big game mental weakness.

I thought he played a very hard tough game in the GF and got away from each opponent he had. Nor do I think his finals campaign as a whole was that bad...

I thought 2005 was one of Magic's best seasons. His goal assists were pure gold IMO. He has also developed into a pretty fine goal sneak! The Ozzie Handball-bounce off the noggin-slam it on the boot and thru for a goal in the PF is a favourite!

I would love to see him kick more goals but he's still got it and provided his body holds up - he's nowhere near finished IMO.

But one that is seen quite often. Of course one also has to know what the alternatives are. I certainly don't remember what alternatives Ablett had at the time. The usual call to "Kick long" can often be an equally low percentage option.

I stand by my opinion that if the kick had been longer it would have been completely safe and Leo would have been off on one of his runs.

couldn't agree more actually. personally, i don't know why we're still concerned about errors (be they small, great or kicking to the opposing captain 10m from goal) that ultimately did not lose us a premiership (still pinching myself).

i can understand people's speculation as to micky's longevity but even greatly diminished (by his standards) he is still a walk-up start in any afl team in the land. i certainly can't wait to see the flashes of brilliance and odd vintage performance that he most certainly will produce over the next 2+ years.

ablett's monumental brain explosion is to me just one of those things that happened to a normally very level-headed unhurried player in a pressure situation. i don't think it indicates that he's more or less likely to do something similar in the future than any other player in the team.

i agree with this so i'd probably choose another way to describe it rather than a brain explosion as i did above.

actually was watching the fourth quarter last night with a mate who was in the states in september. we agreed that a factor in it was ablett's almost exaggerated concentration downwards on his kicking action that meant he was oblivious to cousin's quite brilliant anticipation during that critical 1/3 of a second.

I agree completely with you j s. I don't remember the aternatives or lack thereof, but if he had kicked it a bit better none of this would be discussed...but hey WE STILL WON

I can't believe there are people still hung up on Luke Abletts error. Makes you wonder what vitriol would have spewed forward out of this forum if we had lost the game. WE WON THE GAME lets move on. Contrary to some evidence in Rugby League, footballers are human, they do make mistakes.

Wouldn't have thought you would get much support in this view. My experience is that GS14 is one of the good guys on this site.

And no I do not know him or have ever met him.
