I dont see what the big fuss is over the umpires, sure we were on the wrong side of the umpires today, but it happens everyweek and it all evens out in the end roughly. We never hear on here when we get a good go by the umpires.
Scapegoat comes to mind again with this thread, and frankly this thread shouldnt overide the fact how bloody poor the swans were today.
We cant control the umpires , only the players and thats what we should be concentrating on. Fixing things that are in OUR hands.

I missed this thread, and posted some inebriated thoughts in another one instead.

Darren Goldspink. Maybe its a little out of line, but I'm starting to wonder if one our guys left his sister pregnant at the altar or something. I always feel as if there's a vendetta when he's the umpire for our games. He sure seems inconsistent. He umpired against us for the Hawthorn game too (I wonder if it was his decision to dis-allow Hall's goal).

'Nuff said-still doesn't excuse our efforts today.

A couple of the holding the ball decision were a bit dodge. A few penalties looked soft and few could have gone our way but that always the case when your behind on the score board and the guys constantly kick to the opposition!

Didn't realise till now that Goldsink was the umpire, during the game my mother commentated to me that I bet that is Golldspink, I said prob not.

Goldsink has something against the Swan, has for a long time, he is the only umpire that I can actually remember the name of except the silly kid that umpired our U11's a few weeks ago

we didn't lose the game because of the umps but, in my view, they caned us in the first quarter to such an extent that it demoralised our boys.
it was a joke and Goldspink has something against us...and some other teams .After destroying us with incompetance and inconsistent calls in the first half, they threw away the whistle in the second.....the damage was complete.

Goldspink is definitely against us, always picks fault with our game and Scheider's goal was definitely a goal and he was inside the line - it just meant we may get a run on and Goldspink couldn't cope with that. Be interesting to see if he supports North Melbourne - and how many times he has umpired games between us and Norths - because they always get more frees I feel than any other time.

Just wish somehow through a miracle we had flogged them as I think I hate Norths as much as Collingwood
                  Love those Swans

I'm not saying that he cost us the game (our players wear that honour), just making the observation that out of the games I've watched where he's umpiring, we appear to get the rough end. However, he is definitely inconsistent (and possibly not only where the Swans are concerned).

I'm not having a go at umpires in general here either. They have a difficult job to do without the grief that comes from supporters of losing teams. All I'm saying is call it evenly. If its worth a free kick at one end then the same should naturally apply at the other. Goldspink doesn't do this. FWIW, Brian Sheehan is an excellent umpire IMO.

Basically, some of the FA were warranted (like Tiger punching the ground in the first qtr for instance). If we were playing properly then it may well have negated any perceived impact that the umpiring had on the game (I did say "perceived").

                          Interesting ...
That is number 9 right, the bald guy?

I always thought he is as biased as anyone when he umpires the Swans games, always one of the worst I thought ..

Interesting the differences in opinion there ...

3 free kicks at half-time..... don't know how many the Roos have, but they've had half a dozen gimmes, while at the same getting away with blue murder!
The umpiring was crap yesterday. But when you are second to the ball, as we were for 90% of the match you are always going to have more frees against you (push in the back etc etc)

We WEREN'T whinging about the umps when we beat the Pies or Lions. Because WE were first to the pill.

The umpiring against Brisbane was a disgrace and we let them know it from the members.

It wasn't highlighted because we won.

Yesterday Mac and Ernie, or whatever his name is, was worse than Goldspink.

Having said that, Goldspink always seems to give us a hard time, along with Nash and Dore. Don't even think that grubby maggot Nash is still umpiring. Probably retired to continue his career as a parking officer, or was he the one in the tax office?
