Maybe we should try some of the highly-rated techniques from Melbourne then... Anyone know where I can purchase a truckload of manure at a good price?

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

There's plenty here in the NRL pages...

Yeah but why should Bron be the one to send stuff bagging the players. If you want to bag a player you send him it, not get someone else to do it.

Unfortunately most posts have taken my comments in the wrong context and I wasn't meaning for Bron to cop any backlash from sending the comments to Roos and players.

What I meant was to follow Roos lead and send some collated comments good and bad to the players - so more is before their eyes.

I have sent many comments to them previously - I have taken the trouble to comment on each player after a game - encouragement wise - I found good points in all players no matter what the outcome.

Ashame this post got blown out of proportion by some people who replied.

I was merely taking up Roos point and wanted some good comments and some thoughts on the game - put forward.

No intention to make work for anyone - only came up with Bron as a suggestion because - she did forward Gemma's article and thought she may have a way of ensuring Comments - were forwarded to them for Roos suggestion of exposing the team to more public and media comments.

Shame - all jumped on and took my post completely the wrong way.

I am not out to bag a team - why would I bother naming each player and commenting and sending messages of encouragement. I have sent many letters, faxes and emails - even Congratulations for milestones, farewell expressions etc so I don't lack enthusiasm

            Love those Swans

I am not saying you shouldn't, just that I choose not to. Personally, I believe that encouragement has greater results than criticism. You can believe what you want. Also, I seriously doubt that they think they played well. What does it achieve???

This applies to most situations, there have been a couple of occasions when I have sent negative stuff, but only for extremes. The effort on sunday didn't strike me as an extreme. Players were generally trying. There was some good play. The ground was difficult. We were coming off a high. They are fallible and they aren't a team of stars ... it was not unexpected. I don't think that they need to be crucified or have their noses rubbed in it.

Thanks! I agree. I choose not to, but I don't condemn anyone else for doing what they think is appropriate.

The work isn't the issue, just that I prefer to focus on the positives mostly in my interactions with the players/Club as I think that has the greatest chance of making a difference (however small!).

No probs, I read the other posts and replied to them before I got to this. Be cool.

I don't send any stuff, however for the people that do I think they should send a balance, which was basically my point.

As for Sunday, I agree. It was far from their worst game and really came across as one of those down times in the season we expected, rather than the players looking completely disinterested.

That's not what I meant at all. My simple point was that if you send stuff to the players you should send a mix of good and bad, rather than just good all the time, which is basically like useless fan mail.

I don't think this is such a bad idea amd I certainly don't think it would hurt. Does the club prepare media clippings for all the players? Too much media can be a bad thing, but not enough can be equally bad also.

I just know that I perform heaps better when I get praise rather than criticism. Ditto the people who I have managed. I have criticised ... I choose to be selective about it - when I think it's really really warranted.

I also watch my stepdaughter who responds to attention - positive or negative. She plays up to get attention. I have learnt not to reward bad behaviour with that attention.

I like to think (and whether it's right or not I don't really care) that there might even be a joke or friendly comment within the team about the cards I send (because I send a bunch on a good day! and some players get them week after week) and that the fact none get sent is in itself a criticism.

                            We all have different perspectives.

I completely agree that praise works better than criticism. As long as the players (or whomever) know that the criticism will be there when they don't perform. In some cases supporters will give praise anyway, or they will do nothing if the team was particularly bad, and that is what I was mainly referring to.

And don't forget that the "lack of criticism" has worked in our favour over the last few years in a very big way.

After all, wasn't this one of the reasons why Plugger performed so well in his days in the Red and White.

And wasn't it also one of the reasons that enticed Barry Hall to Sydney.

Others have also benefitted from being away from the "spotlight".

By this I don't mean that players should be "sheltered" like preschoolers... but it is, after all, a double edged sword.

                                Just a thought....
