Scott Stevens to become a backman

I am wondering if anyone else agrees with me, Scott Stevens looks very comfortable across Half Back. We all know he is a beautiful mark and he is not slow across the turf. I think that it would be a great move to give him some time in our back line.

I know Leo Barry and Craig Bolton are playing as a pseudo 3rd big men. however, whilst they have done a great job for us, I think we need one more tall player to support Andrew Schauble and Jason Saddington, Scott Stevens looks great across half back and he could become a very good backman, who can go forward as needed.
LRT + Schneids + The Mullett = hope for the future.

He'll do well as a floating Defender across half back, but I really can't see him becoming a Fullback. Its worth a try throwing him down back like we did against North, maybe he can find his true role in our setup
    Once was, now elsewhere

Been saying this all year. He has trouble holding down CHF, so why not down at CHB. It would seem perfect for him, and we did look better with him down there in the last quarter.

Agreed Scott could be OK in defence......

Leo has redescovered in defence and a bloke called Dunkley couldn't find a position till RDB put him at Full Back the rest is history.....

        Must be worth a go.

Move him back there and for crying out load leave Barry Hall at CHF...I have been saying this to a few people this year and was happy when the move did happen.

We were playing good football with a good CHF.

Moving him back to FF makes us too BH conscious and we usually get beaten. The same happen against the Dawks and Freo.

its good when we have bazza at CHF and magic as a pseudo FF, without magic i dont think bazza would be all that good unless schneider becomes the main target??? once doyle returns, bazza will rip it up at chf (if we play doyle at FF) as there will be a big target that bazza can aim at with schneider and magic at doyle's feet... thatll work wonders

stevens at CHB is not bad, but again he simply doesnt have the size (weight) to stop the big boys

I think he would make a reasonable half back, but he's very much in the mould of Saddington and Schauble. That is, he's a reasonable size but not particularly tall or large. So that helps against some of the taller forwards, that Bolton and Barry normally have to take, but we need a big backman. Hopefully we can bulk up LRT and put him back there.

                Agree Diego,
I'd prefer to have Micky O as a full forward (even if not playing the traditional forward's role there) and have BBB at CHF. Or maybe Jason Ball and Goodsey swapping between the ruck and FF, with Micky roving from the pocket.

Hall does not pay enough attention to the defensive side of the game when at FF, so opposition sides can rebound extra quickly out of defence. When the defence is keeping him under wraps he tends to get the ****s and come down as far as the centre square looking for the ball. I personally think he should always stay at CHF where he HAS to be more team-focussed and has to look for teammates up field.

I have NEVER though that Stevens would cut the mustard as an AFL standard forward. He simply doesn't get in the game enough. But as a CHB I'd like to give him a try. It really is his only chance.

Please Roosey, can we not bother with Matthew Nicks any more. Now that he is getting older he simply doesn't have the pace to play the game he did a couple of years ago on a HBF (that's half back flank, not Hauptbahnhof!) He cannot contest aerially, is a dodgy kick at goal, and does have the alertness of Micky O or even Schneider to rove the packs and score. I'd rather we blood another young guy (Josh Thewlis, Nick Malcevski?) than persist with somebody who by now is past his used-by date.

                Thoughts?

Nicks is average below the knees, average above the head, average hands, average kick, average pace, no urgency. I cannot see him beating anyone one-on-one. I noticed that in all of our losses, he was playing. In the Melbourne game, we was losing until he left the field.

BTW, Hall does not seem to know how to mark the ball overhead under some physical pressure. If the defender plays in front, his leading game is in trouble. He got to learn how to mark overhead in a contest. He is a big boy, just a little nudge and mark will do. But he needs to learn this so we could kick long overhead to him when the defender is playing in front.

I totally agree with you Diego. But I think there was no other choice than to have Hall at FF with Magic out.

Just on Hall... What a friggin' bewdiful kick he is! He'd have to be the best set shot kick in the league. Tight on the boundary, most people play on and open up the angle. Not Barry Hall. straight off the mark, no deviation, goal. Awesome.
Only 9 notes? How easy can it be!

I like the look of that team, particularly once you slot Doyle into it (possibly for Fosdike).

Actually, I feel that Powell has got the taste. It is time for Sunquist or Albett. Drop Powell back to the 2's for the sake of his development.

I can not disagree with Ablett or Sunny for Powell . I picked Powell for his marking ability and his persistence. 6 TO 1 OR 1/2 a dozen the other.

while a good line up, i think that LRT will start on the bench with williams at HF, davis in FP and j. bolton as rover... id say kirk will tag johnson so he will start in the middle with maxfield on the wing...
