I actually think we do have some pretty fleet footed players - I think we'd compare well with most other teams in this department. Maxfield and Willo can both accelerate very quickly away from an opponent, Crouch and Fosdike are speedy once they get into their stride, while Goodes and Kennelly are quick for tallish players.

But I agree that the main reason is the style of play - when it is working well.

As mention by a few people here, Ball's influence was outstanding. He should have got in the best list for us - 25 hitouts, 15 posessions and 8 marks.

Hall and Davis are looking like a vey dangerous forward line.,Goodesy was great all round the park.....great team effort!

The reason we look so quick is 2 fold.

        1. We do have good running players who are always on the move . Kenneally Williams, Goodes, Cressa(not quick)Maxfield. But we also have blokes like Fosdike and Bolton who cover a lot of ground and put themselves in the position ahead of the ball to take a pass.
        2. We play on quickly on most occasions(wish Mathews would join in) which keeps the ball moving quickly, and we seem to find the mark with our kicks because players are metes in front of their man or out on their own. This in turn allows us to run off.

I thought Ball was clearly best on ground, but there you go.

Warfe and Nicks were excellent also. It'll be hard to dislodge them now.

And Leo Barry must be nearly the best half-back in the comp at the moment!

21.7 as compared to 11.17... last night's scoreline and then last year's scoreline... same scoring shots but much better finishing... tells a big story IMO

Yeah, Wanganeen is probably the best player in any position at the moment.

But I think the reason he's so good (and the reason he'll win the Brownlow) is his versatility. If he played purely as a half-back, I don't reckon there'd be much between him and Leo.

It bodes very well for the 2nd half of the season after we get Doyle back. Touch-wood we can keep both of them in the team at the same time. How good will that be?

With Doyle, goodes and ball we will have close if not the best big man division in the competition.

Fantastic game and a fantastic night. I have only just recovered! Besides the footy, I had some very interesting conversations with a number of people, including Richard Colless. It was the Redbacks/Past Players cocktail function and on top of that we scored an invite to the Chairman's after match function ( a much better venue than we plebs get! ). Pretty much all the players were there. I'll do a report tomorrow and send it to Des, so it should be posted on tuesday.

hells no im not being sarcastic, biglands, adelaide's backup ruckman, is sitting 7th on the hitout tally for this season, with clarke 2nd... thats a total of a whopping 444 hitouts this season at 40 a game... im sorry but they would absolutely flog this division... FWIW, ball is sitting in 10th spot with 7 less hitouts than biglands...

It depends on what you want the ruck guys to do. The Adelaide guys are well ahead on hit outs, but the Swans guys are miles ahead on possessions and marks. The Swans are not a great ruck combination, however are very effective around the ground. I would prefer my ruckmen to do that if I had to choose.
