Banner message for Port Adelaide game

Any thoughts? Could do with some ideas.

These are a couple I have come up with.

    "To our interstate allies
    thanks for your support.
    There's nothing we'd like better
    than a Grand Final Sydney-Port"

    "Interstaters, together in the eight
    Victoria we'll eliminate"

    JF

PS:- Can we not have words that are too long? We don't want a repeat of the Richmond "ruhtless" scenario.

I don't really care....just as long as I NEVER see "bomers" on a banner again, I'll be happy!

        Or something like:

        "We've shown this year
        We've got some clout
        Now it's time
        To turn the Power out"

All very good so far, I like the "power out" bit so to put my twist on it I would say :

          Sydney's a force this year
          There is no doubt
          Now for Port Adelaide's turn
Watch as the Power goes out!

By the way if someone's idea on here was used for the banner would they be notified?

            How's it done ?

Which may have worked until Wazza kicked 7.2 yesterday!

Ok, I have Port sympathies myself, but I'd rather we develop a sense of comraderie with the interstate clubs than alienate them by calling them "ferals" (even when that wouldn't be too wide from the mark in Port's case).

Don't get your train of thought Charlie that a message of interstate comraderie can be seen as "defeating the purpose". We may well need the support of Port, the Crows et al in the first in the face of the constant whinging of the Vic clubs.

Do you think that the players actually read what is on the banners anyway (milestones aside) ? Adam Schneider has taken to putting a Sherrin through it on most occasions of late anyway.

I have to apologize too on the standard of some of them of late as well. When you get 2-3 people seeing anybody else who turns up to banner-making as a threat then we will continue having medicore banners at Sydney home matches.(Two RWO are bearing the brunt of the cold-shoulder at the moment from what I hear.) Essendon's on Saturday night was so much better than ours it wasn't funny.

But I'd given up caring about that sort of thing. I support my club in other ways these days. The reason things never improve is a microcosm of the club as a whole, and definitely leads back to the influence (and alliance-making) of one man-Richard "See ya, I'm out of the country" Colless.

Having said that, please keep some witty sayings for the Port banner coming my way. I'll forward them on to Cath.

              PS:- How about this?

"Blooding the kids is the only way
to hold the Premiership Cup one day."
"Never ever ever state that Sydney is gone. They are like cockroaches in the aftermath of a nuclear war"

Julian - simply, why get all cushy on the banner?

If the players DO read it, then it should be something witty... perhaps a mild insult to the other team... something that might put a grin on their faces and relieve the stress they'd be feeling.

I don't think we need a 'camaraderie' with anyone except Brisbane, who are so tied up with our fortunes it's not funny.

Camaraderie is all fine and well, but they're all enemies when you're facing them on the footy field

I like the banner messages to be full of bravado (even if only to fill us with hope for a minute) and preferably to rhyme in a really cheesy way.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

                    Yeah exactly.

I think our relationship with Brisbane should be like Freo and West Coast. Work together off field to further mutual interests. They are the only comparable club in the AFL.

                    But on field.... anything goes!

Charlie Freo and Wet Toast hate each other, well the fans do anyway. Still I agree with JF in term of that they are fellow interstaters who can only help us give the Victorian Clubs the bird and stand up to protect our rights in the fact of Eddie and co.

On the banner - I'm happy if its better than the Melb based CS vs Collingwood

Robbie, yes that is true on field.

But off it, totally different kettle of fish. Connolly and Worsfold regularly meet to discuss tactics and what not... they are interested in the success of both clubs for mutual benefit.

That's how it should be with us and Brisbane.

But Fremantle and West Coast absolutely HATE each other! There is very little co-operation between the two. And the supporters of each other hate the other.

                            OFF FIELD!

Connolly and Worsfold are as tight as tight can be!!! They work together on tactics at Subiaco, in the interests of keeping the House of Pain stuff going. Neither would have had so much success this quickly without the cooperation, I don't think.
