    the bash brothers

what a combination it would be to have neitz and hall!!!

if reports on bigfooty are correct, could be a possibility in picking him up in the preseason draft!

FWIW, it is alleged that he was involved in a drunken brawl at crown...

    a) When has a "report" on BF ever had any grounding in reality, particularly this early in the year on possible trades / drafts

    b) Why on earth would Sydney want Neitz? Good player but hardly fits the mould of the type of player we need to strengthen the squad.

I see Neitz playing out his Footy at the Dees. Why is it that Sydney is usually the first club that any out of contract/disgruntled/embattled player has attached to them as a possible move?

Well, it would give time for some of our slighter and younger key back players to develop over the next few years. If you slotted Aker and Neitz into our side, then I reckon a premiership would be beckoning within 2 years.

But given how much we would have to give up to get Neitz, I don't think it would be worth it (unless we could guarantee a premiership, which of course we can't). More importantly, I doubt very much if he would leave Melbourne.

Julian - you need to come down for the Melbourne game now... so that the Swans cheer squad can sing "you're going home in the back of a divi van" every time he gets the ball!

By the way, there is no chance that this episode will result in Neitz leaving Melbourne. At the moment, Neitz IS Melbourne.

don't you mean picking him up in the post-casino wheelie bin?

Sorry, Liz. My faith is just a bit shaky sometimes.

But seriously, I think if Neitz should ever really come on the market, there would be 15 teams willing to mortgage their souls to get him, regardless of his age. If you put him into a good team, he would be unstoppable . . . I don't think there's anything he couldn't achieve given the right opportunity.

But the fact is Melbourne would cease to exist without him, so they'll never let him get away.

We did that a few years ago with someone arguably more unstoppable than Neitz. He was marvellous for us, became a hero up here in Old Sydney Town and made a huge contribution towards the Swans gaining on-field and off-field credibility here. I have no doubts it was the right thing to do at the time and was an unquestioned success in terms of Sydney and AFL.

Then a couple of years ago we invested in a younger version, maybe not quite as "A" grade as the first one but often labelled as the most intimidating footballer currently going around. He's not quite unstoppable, but when he gets on a roll he's not far off.

Then a new, young, refreshing coach was appointed and decreed that the Swans now need to do more than maintain some semblance of credibilility, they need to win the flag, and to do that he was going to develop a team from what he had and by adding young talent.

How would another similar type to the first "Messiah" - but not as good - who would probably get in the way of the younger version we already have, help achieve this goal?

                              You're right of course, it would probably be a disaster . . . .

Neitz and Hall and Goodes and O'Loughlin all doing their own thing . . . . .

                              But what if it worked???

It would be beautiful . . . even for just a couple of seasons.

It could almost make me move to Sydney!!

Makes me wonder too . . . . what if Tony Lockett, aged 29, came on the market now . . . . would we take him?
