Ineptness of the Swans

Never seen the game, but a workmate said this was his first swans game that he ever watched and he was right there when plugger elbowed Peter Caven. I've read a lot about it but never seen it.

At least he was punished well - 8 weeks wasnt it? And yes lizz, first thought on Barassi was that he wanted to contract the guy. He said this to his wife on the phone after the game.

I started supporting the swans in 1997, which i thought was a nice neutral start to the game.

It was Plugger v The Swans/Supporters that day. With the 4 pts going to the big fella. Oh well, at least he was able to turn it on for us too. Loved him, even when he was at the 'Aints. I bawled when he broke the record, and then again when we beat the Pies that day (a great win against Eddie).

You might have been - it was on the radio too IIRC.

For those who prefer memories of us winning, FoxFooty currently has us whipping Collingwood by lots, rd 1 1987 at Victoria Park. A very strange season that one - we dominated early, fell away in the middle, produced three enormous wins, then fell away again and embarrassed ourselves in the finals.

That was actually our first ever win against the Eddies, I think.

I was actually talking all day to these nice Saints fans who were saying how they were against a merger with Hawthorn etc etc. They were resigned to losing, and were really positive about the future of our club.

I ended up at the end of the match crying uncontrollably. I can handle losing when we are behind all day. But losing like that, especially at that stage when wins were so rare, was just too much to bear.

Mr Lockett kicked the football directly at a RWO listee Foreign Legion as well. (Wish he hit your ex instead mate! )

He made comments after the match about the fact that Sydney supporters were the most personal with their abuse in the league.

Well done Mr Graetz! No wonder he belted the pill at ya!

Fortunately or Unfortunately for me I have been watching the swans since 1989 and have seen some absolute beltings of 20 goals plus however as painful as that was, I think that game Vs St.Kilda was one of the most painful games I have seen, worse than the dark days of the early 90's in some ways.

Also our favourite oldie, kenny williams ( for those who dont know he is the old guy behind the goals at the SCG ) almost got killed that day by plugger when tony drilled a goal head high from the goal square, it missed, just, but would have done some serious damage if had connected.

I will say this though... I spend a bit of time on the Hawthorn board and we seem to have a lot more of the young recent recruiters to the game (like me from '95) whereas I don't think there is a person at the Hawks who doesn't remember screaming at the '89 GF.

I like this as it fits our team image of young things on the move doing the unexpected.

I lived in Sydney for one year: 1994. I missed a single home game: the one game they won at home that year (if memory serves, on a Friday (crappy weather I think)). Sucks to be me (the good bit was how you could stroll in and sit wherever you wanted). I hated Plugger so badly, but I think the Geelong game was worse, there were more Cats supporters than Swans supporters.

I seem to remember the Swans would regularly manage to get ahead at some stage of the first quarter to give you (false) hope. I yelled a lot that year.

Yep that match was against richmond SC, and it was my first game, a rather chilly friday night. Shame you missed it - it was actually a good game from what i remember! Although didn't we win against carlton up here that year as well iirc?

I think we won one game away (in Melbourne?) and one at home. Anyway, with '94 and then a couple of years in Perth I witnessed first-hand 13 losses in a row.

If only I had got off my arse on that Friday, it could have been 14
