To be fair to Bolton, had he played Cornes from in front, Cornes would probably just have marked everything over his head. I guess that when you know you don't have the height and strength to compete with you opponent in marking contests it is more comforting to play where you can at least see both your opponent and the ball. That way you might have some chance of spoiling. But of course when the opposition is delivering the ball well you will get thrashed every time.

Bolton did a pretty good job keeping Richo under wraps but a lot of that was due to the midfield pressure preventing Richmond delivering the ball to him properly, not to mention Richo's own ability to self-destruct when he gets frustrated.

I think Bolton is a decent and versatile player but he's been given some very tough jobs that he's not physically suited to. Until we find a big, tall, strong defender we are going to get pulled apart by tall forwards unless the midfield can dominate.

One thing you can not single out any 1 player that didn't play well against port adelaide. The majority of the team played poorly, you can't say that Rowan or Matthew Nicks were our worst players on the day, far from it.
How do you expect the defence to perform under all that pressure that our midfield places on them and keeps placing on them?

If this game was a one-off for Warfe, then fine.

But it wasn't, he makes the same mistakes every week, no matter how much pressure he is under.

Nobody is bagging Warfe or Nicks on Saturday's performance alone.

They have been average in every game played this year.

Not true Lizz, players like Dunkley and Fletcher play in front and do it quite effectively. You have to feel and/or watch your opponent, and then watch when the ball comes down - basically you get in front and go for it. It goes without saying that you don't run under the ball and allow the opponent to jump over you.

When you are out there you can also use your body quite effectively to hold the player off (or slow them down) and create a physical contect for the mark. Bolton did not do this on Saturday and paid the price - quite simply he was slow off the mark and off his game.

No matter how well the ball is delivered, your opponent should not be consistently getting 5-10 metres on you which happened as the game went on.

BTW, Cornes and Bolton are actually comparable in height, especially when you compare Richo and Bolts. There was no excuse for allowing the consistent latitude he gave on Saturday.

Warfe has to stay. Proberly the only bloke in the team that is courages enough to back into a pack, Rowan might make some mistakes but his hardness to the side is to important to us. What about Benny Mathews this bloke has got the no heart but because he gets soft kicks that we all notice you blokes love him. IMO matthews out and frosty back in this bloke shows great courage.

Frosty is the biggest hack in our side AND when in the side showed nothing to suggest he was a good or even better player than Mathews. Frosty has little or no courage. You Warfe lovers always try and rate Warfe next to Mathews, why is that?? They play different positions.

The facts are clear Warfe makes too many mistakes in the little time he is on the field, to be an good, any longer. Just wait until Saddo, Fixter and ever Doyle come back because you'll find that Warfe is gone.

But Dunks and Fletcher are true KPP backmen. Fletcher is very tall and few forwards are going to be able to mark over the top of him unless they time a leap. Dunks gave away height to many opponents but was a superb reader of the ball and had fantastically sure hands.

It's a little unfair, I think, to judge Bolton against these two. He'd probably be the first to admit he's not really a FB. My comments were more based on the fact that as a player being played out of position he was probably damned either way. He may be about the same height as Cornes but he's listed as 10kg lighter. That's a fair amount of weight to give away to your opponent. Remember also that Cornes has become a very good forward and the delivery to him was decent for most of the second half.

I'm not suggesting that Bolton's performance on him was good - or even that it was adequate for the team, just that its not entirely fair to blame it on Bolton himself. We need a FB, fair and square, and then we might get to see whether Bolton can cut it as a third or fourth defender or even a taller midfielder.

As a one eyed swans supporter i think i've seen Benny play a few times and what i see isnt anything special. Can anyone acutally say that they have seen him on anyone? At least Warfey keeps his oppoant onist.

Until he makes his normal mistake and lets them in. Happens every week. Mathews is a midfielder and Warfe is a defender, I can't believe you think they play a simular position
