Meet Up Before the Carlton Match - July 19

As Charlie said, CS members first then if we have any room we allow non members in. The seats I was talking about is the normal group of seats that I and Julian take up with our little group so that we have a chanting group going and that we can use our large flags without getting in the way of the others.

If on the day we have seats free your more than welcome to join us.

Cheers guys , thanks for the response. I suppose I will just wander past the cheersquad if possible at around 1.45pm - (as to give me enough time to find another seat if there is none in the CS avaliable) , and see how the seating is going. Robbie I will look out for you as we have met on a couple of occasions, as I dont think I know anyone else there by face apart from you.

You can simply stand in the next bay, and drink you head off, as we watch in sober yearning. But at $6.90 for a bourbon and coke my drinking can wait till the after-match (unless I escape to have one at half time, until Wendy catches me like against Collingwood last year.)

The seating is what I wish the SCG was-first in best dressed. If you feel the need to rock up at 2:20, then reserve a seat. But if you want to organise sitting with your friends, you can do it really easily, as long as you get in early.

Those in the back of of the Cheer Squad bay at Carlton can stand to. I plan to bring my Stadium Australia drum, so be prepared for more soccer-style singing. And PLENTY OF NOISE!!!! (Hopefully that will scare the grannies off!)

PS:- Robbie/Charlie/Melbourne CS crew, can you ensure that the diamond-chequered flag, the best one you have in Melbourne, has a new pole. It is such a waste for a good flag. And I'll be wanting to wave it!

Large flags, I think NOT!

Do you reckon I should smuggle by big one in and put it up after the match for a ****stirr?

On the flag JF, there is another smaller one that you could swap poles with.... I use to do that all the time, until and went out and got my own poles.

Jules - no chance in hell they are going to let that drum be used at Carlton... everything is so close and hemmed in... you'll be getting complaints from other grandstands. I'd give it till about 2:16... and you won't be allowed to use it in the CS either. The grannies will make sure of that.

As good as it is at carrying sound... it IS viscious on the ears if you are close by... people won't tolerate it.

No Charlie, there WILL be complaints, and security MIGHT take the drum. There are no rules at Optus Oval regarding drums.

Ok there will be me and one other at this stage, possible two others. Is there a big flag for me at all? I can handle our smallest big flag quite nicely now I'm not sure what time we're heading in tho because I have some shopping at the Queen Vic markets to get in first!

We get it into Stadium Australia, and people have really gotten used to it. I'm always up to broaden the score as to how we can support our team. People snorted when I brought the drum into Homebush."Bloody soccer supporters" They now accept it and realise that it helps the cheer quite a bit.

At Carlton you could bring an AC shotgun into the ground and to @@@ security don't care. At the G or Dome I would never try. But at Carlton I know I'll get it in.

I'm giving it a go. I may be able to borrow one from the guy who runs the soccer Green & Gold army, who lives around the corner from Optus Oval (Carlton soccer dude).We could create an awesome atmosphere with the amount of Sydney types singing soccer-style songs. People may not be used to it. But hey, people weren't used to the soccer-style singing we started at Melbourne matches at the start of last year.

If it gets taken, so be it. But if you don't try, people will never see how it can be advantageous in your chanting.

Jules - there's a fine line sometimes between a good atmosphere, and a bad one. That drum WILL upset people, and it WILL spoil some people's day at the footy. My father is a case in point - at Optus, he won't be able to go and sit somewhere else, and that drum is seriously going to upset him... others will be the same... I just think that the drum, at Optus of all places, is a BAD idea. There are a lot of people who simply can't handle that sort of noise at close quarters. Just remember the Melbourne CS demographic. Some people actually value their hearing, and watching the game in an enjoyable fashion, over the quality of cheering. The first and foremost reason - and I'm the same as everyone - that people go to the footy is to have fun.

Don't get me wrong, at Stadium Australia I think the flags and drum are great - but I don't think it'd be so great at Optus. You will NOT be a very popular person if you use it there.
