    Saints Are Worried

    http://saints.com.au/default.asp?pg=news&spg=display&articleid=104117

Hope this URL works, am a bit of a technocrip.

Both Max and Aussie are not 100%.

If we show up to play on Saturday night, this will be nothing short of a percentage booster for us. Would love to get up over the 120 mark!

The only thing that can spur teh Saints into action is the Melbourne media. When the media got on Hawks' backs (especially Crawford's) for underperforming, they responded with some gritty wins and now they're even rated as a finals potential . I'm not sure if the comparison has any merit, but nevertheless it was worth mentioning.
My point here is that the Swans shouldn't take the Saints likely, because to me this looks like another mind game being brewed down here in Melbourne. The Swans are known here for their lack of determination to go all the way and a lot of Victorian clubs are playing on that card, which proved valid in the past.

It will be an interesting test for our guys. Really should be an opportunity for a percentage boost and to kick a team that's down. The Saints have been pummeled a lot this year, and we should win by >50 pts if we're fair dinkum!

I seem to remember similar comments re margin of victory against the Saints being posted here before that embarrassingly awful draw last year. I'd be happy if they come away with a one point victory on Saturday night!

Gees Lizz, 1 point victory at home at night would only just be a victory.

A lot has changed since that game and judging by the most recent week's form, we should shatter that image hopefully.

I don't see Saints as a team capable of sustained performances so the Hawks comparsion is not relevant. In fact I would be more worried about our game looming against them.

One thing that we have not done once this year is underestimate a team. Every one of our losses this year resulted from travel and or being outplayed by a better team and have only lost one home game, a game which I hope we plan to avenge in Rd 18.

I'd have to agree with the first two paragraphs. But the Sainters haven't been overly great in the mind-game battles of late. How about Sheedy claiming he was going to start Hird in the Backline in the press last week, and then starting him forward? Incredibly, this seemed to take the defenders & coaching staff by surprise!

Not sure about this last paragraph, though. Swans not known for going all the way? By people who haven't watched us since 2002, maybe. I thought the whole basis of our success this year WAS that we play all the way to the final siren.

A third (almost) of the quarters we've won this year have been our 4th quarters (10 of 32)....No other team has won more than ten 4th quarters this year, and only West Coast and Port have equalled that feat. Fair company I would've thought?

Greetings all from down south with my first post after lurking for a while.

I have been following the Saints news down here and there is no doubt that after 3 shockers they are being primed for a fair assault. Reasons?
                    1. The coach has dragged out the line about no finals if we don't win this one. A fair stretch given their recent performances but worth a try.
                    2. Has been stated that struggling seniors (Burke, Thompson, Powell, etc.) would be given one more chance. Translation: perform this week or career on line.
                    3. Their training has been very physical. Lots of tackling, bumping, contesting trying to engender the hunger for the contest.
                    4. Hudghton and Jones trained Wed. so expect them to play.

That said, the Swans have played teams on their merits all year. They have respected the strengths of opponents with appropriate matchups and then sought to beat them with own strengths. The Saints weakness is their backline (suits us) and their lag of leg speed around the ground, which we should be able to exploit.

And I think we are better coached, so hopeful of a win after a solid workout.

                      Better Coached !!

I think I've just choked on my cornflakes !! LOL

Thomas only has the job because he is a ars*licker of the president

With the amount of young talent Saints have I reckon Roos would have them in top 4.

I love how he got the nickname "cornflakes"

Because he's been "thrown out of so many (coaching) boxes"

I thought it was because he is quoted as saying he "eats pressure for breakfast"?? Patrick Smith laughed this off and dubbed him "Cornflakes".

I like either one, they are both funny and he is an absurd coach, one of the league's weirdest ever.

I would be hoping for a big 1st quarter to shell shock them.

That would be the perfect remedy for any "mind games"
