But he has always had a knack for kicking spectacular and freakish goals and at the opportune time. Maybe as Roos said it was no fluke. Anyway he has not had much praise here but I think he has been the quiet achiever. Since Healy baked him he has been one of our most consistent performers. And that is with very little preparation. Roos has developed his game by playing him in the middle, Malthouse had him cast as a forward.
Davis, you are a freak

I think he was a bit lazy not to pick the ball up, perhaps he was a bit lucky. If he missed he might have been dragged. I think poor character in terms of work ethic still lets him down compared with guys like Bolton, Fosdike and Goodes who give their all don't just do the flashy thingsComment

As for that goal, there is no way he had time to bend down, pick up the ball, balance and kick a goal before being set upon by half a dozen defenders. Slightly lucky that it came off maybe, but definitely the right thing to try in that situation.Comment

God, there are some (censored) posting on this board!!!
There was little Cressa could have done other than to wait for that ball to come...it was a floating, high ball that enabled the "Scum player" (hey, I reserve that title for Essendon or Hawthorn players) to get to the contest... I doubt very much if he were in a position to jump even a milimetre off the ground... Sure, Cressa and Willo, and Tadhg and Leo, and BBBH, and Goodsie, and Fozzie, and Crouchie, and Matthews, and Jude...(get the picture?) and all of the team make mistakes at times, but I'm sure glad they're in the team. Also, then again so do the true "greats" of the modern game - Buckley, Crawford, Wanga, et al...
Also re ND...while i wasn't on the pro-ND side at trade time, I think his efforts this year with us have been most valuable and his work ethic has grown along with his fitness. On that goal, there is no question in my mind, having watched the replay a few times now, that he looked up at the goal before kicking it. Sure, it was a sweet kick, and some luck, as Liz says must be with you, but that's not an issue really for me. The real issue really is, that he saw the opportunity, assessed the situation (the likelihood of being tackled had he had to pick up the bouncing ball) and what to do AND quickly did it. Same with Kingie's goal. Both brilliant pieces of opportunistic football.
Give these guys a break...they have performed superbly well overall this season, certainly better than I thought they were capable of, having lost so many experienced players all at once last year. We are 2nd on the ladder for chrissake (albeit perhaps temporarily)
Let me recap on how Roosie described Cressa after the carlton game: " one of the Swans' genuine great players of the generation....""Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."Comment

As it stands the ball was punched over the line, stoppage, LRT Handballs it in front of Nick GoAl!

If ND had have picked the ball up he would have been tackled. Pretty simple really. He made the right decision based on what was around him at the time.
Cressa could have made a bit more of the marking attempt. It was kinda indicative of the Swan's second half really. That is, the players were waiting for the ball to come to them rather than attacking the football.
But you can't blame cressa for that attempted mark. It's just one of those hindsight things. Cressa had a great game I thought.Only 9 notes? How easy can it be!Comment

In line for goal of the year - Flucas! Against us!
As for ND - the most dangerous gaolsneak in the comp. More power to his boot.He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

I remember Cressa kicking a similar goal against Essendon in '98.We all dream of a team of BLTs!Comment

Although we all know about the weaknesses of davis but the fact that he produces some goals every game should cement his position. It is a comfortable feeling when the ball lands in his hands inside 50.
Lately, he has been pushing up to midfield and as a result, is getting more involved with skills other than goal kicking. And he definitely is improving in other areas.
Although he is unlikely to be anyones' favourite player, he does deserve a position in the team.Using hypothesis testing via confidence intervals:

Cressa could not have made a better attempt at the mark. He was in perfect position to take the mark.
Making a better attempt would mean running back a few steps, then run back and jump to take the mark. Considering his body momentum was going backwards a little, i think it would have been difficult for him to do so.
I have been in the exact same situation. Knowing the opponent was coming fast, all i could do was try to spoil the ball and he still marked it.
