I don't know why we wore black in the 1933 GF, but our colours have been RED and WHITE since 1877 - NOT BLACK!!!
Heritage round? Our heritage is red and white. It's the only thing that is the same as it was when the league started in 1897. We have a different club name, a song that wasn't around until a few years later, a different nickname... but our colours are the same.
Grrr....
We hate Anthony Rocca
We hate Shannon Grant too
We hate scumbag Gaspar
But Leo WE LOVE YOU!
Well, if it's good enough for the 1933 premiership side, it's good enough for the 2003 round 19 team which is wearing the strip worn by the 1933 premiership side.
Obviously if a SM-era guernsey is to be used as an occasional clash design in future seasons, we'd have to go with red or (more likely) white.
177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out.... Des' Weblog

Until colour TV arrived shorts were 100% black for home games and white for away regardless of whatever the club colours were!!
There was no TV in 1933, it must be some other reason. Most likely they wore those shorts because it might have been a clash of colours or something. TV was defenitely not the reason. Maybe we should ask Jim Main who's a Swan specialist.
Not sure about the stripey socks with that outfit. Each part of the strip - ie the guernsey, shorts and socks - look like they're separate from the rest, with the overall impression being quite "busy". I reckon plain red socks would look better (though as a rule I don't mind the candy-stripes).
well the afl will introduce away strips before 2 long. The current home outfit would be great for home games . All i am suggesting the old jumper would be ideal for away games. We are Sydney - yes, but dont forget we played in that jumper until 1986 , 4 years after we moved to sydney. the colours red and white r what peolple associate with the swans. I would hate to think we would were something other than red and white, like that hideous orange jumper we wore against south fremantle in 1979 escort cup
