    Goodsey clanger count

Will some one who has the time please watch the full replay and count his clangers. I think it may be a world record.

Sure he tried desperately in the 2nd half and got plenty of the footy, but boy he made some shocking mistakes and turnovers.
I think the theory of the more possessions the more mistakes theory was well and truly given a work out by AG, and was way out of proportion to the theory.

His ailment unfortunately was followed by about 15 others.

Strange how we see things differently. I thought Goodes was brilliant tonight. Maybe in the heat of the game, at the ground, I missed his mistakes, but I thought he was by far our best. And Hall missed a couple of marks but also took several of the type he's been missing in recent weeks.

Admittedly things often seem clearer on TV than live, but I have no intention of watching the tape to find out.

Based on that performance we have far greater problems that those two players.

Lizz, things do look different on TV, watch the replay and see what Nico and I am talking about. Adam tried, but it seemed that most of what he did turned to clangers and I reckon that BBBH missed at least 5 or 6 marks that you would expect any good full forward to get.

I was commentating on the Chat Room and it got to the stage of "another goodes clanger" "hall misses again"

I think Goodes needs to be sent to foot disposal school this summer.

For a brilliant player he has one of the worst kicks in the game. Tries to be cute one too many times.

As for Hall...his worst game in the red and white. Yeah he did some pro active stuff but dropping marks that FF eat for brekkie is pathetic.

According to the stats Goodsey had 6 clangers, same as Hall - Vandenberg for the Hawks had 7. Shane Crawford was Hawthorn's second highest with 4. I always think the clanger count can be a bit misleading. Often it's the more creative players with high counts, they're the ones trying to pull off something different to get the team going and sometimes it doesn't come off. If Goodes were to play a mistake-free game he would become a completely different player and we would lose a lot of our attacking spark.

Sorry, but I still agree with Diego on this one. Goodes has to polish his disposal. At the moment it doesn't look well and somebody should tell him. The last kick at goal in Adelaide game tells a lot and it wasn't the first time his kick went astray like that. I still remember vividly when Goodes kicked a ball accros the ground to an opposition player in the HB that resulted in a quick goal. No metter how good he is, the bottom line is that even Goodes must be accountable for his own actions. As sometimes briliant action can spark the players so can a stupid clanger dampen it.

i was at the game and followed Goodes closely and thought he was the swans best player but maybe tried too hard at times and was b###ggered .I don't suppose you saw him wallopped behind play on the TV!!
This kind of attack is what we were hearing about Cressa and his clangers early in the year. The class players are noticed and so are the occassional mistakes.

Good point red. Not only is he doing most of the ruck work, one minute he's dropping back to help out in the defence, the next minute he's up in our forward line as an extra option in attack. He's like our fireman - wherever there's a problem area he pops us to put out the fire! I'd like to see the Ch9 Player Track on him to see how many kms he covers a game. And as we know, fatigue can sometimes result in mistakes.

Sorry, but I think you're talking crap.

Goodes put in a pretty good performance yesterday, and the reason he (and many others among the Swans) made so many mistakes was due to the well thought out tactics of Stone and Schwab and the relentless pressure the Hawks put on the Swans. It was simply a matter of whoever got the most possessions would also be under the most pressure, and make the most mistakes.

Goodes' field disposal is top class. His goal-kicking style is good, but he certainly suffers from the confidence yips from time to time. I wouldn't want him kicking for goal for my life, but generally his accuracy isn't bad.

I don't think he has to "polish" anything, just keep on doing what he's good at. Mind you, it would help if he had another one or two decent midfielders aroud him . . . . Forget the KPPs, we won't make the step up to a "premiership" side until we've found a few more genuine ball-winners.

The poor effort against the hawks was a poor effort by the team as a whole. Our ball handling was so out of touch. Heaps of people dropped marks, hand passes.

chammond, i think ur talking a bit of crap. Every player needs to polish something at all times. And Goodes is definitely in that list with his clangers. He tries to play hero too many times.

One of the biggest weaknesses of the swans was felt. We lack a real star. Someone like Aker would have helped spark the team up.

Hall simply dropped too many marks. I think he needs to get his temper back. Because he doesnt play as good when hes not fired up.

In my mind, the worst loss of the season.
Using hypothesis testing via confidence intervals:
Nick Davis mark inside 50 = goal

Ball's injury will lead to more clangers by Goodes - simple reason - he is now asked to ruck and do everything - tiredness will show in poor disposal.

Hear hear. I don't think I've missed watching a replay this year .... but that one's just too hard to face.

Very good call son. Why when he and others get the footy and get"cute" with little lairising dinks is beyond me, when they play their best footy getting it in quickly with long kicks to say Hall with Schnides crumbing. I'm sure this is not what Roos wants.

Sure a bit of creative stuff can give a quick break through centre, but the Hawks were getting back quickly in numbers, so stuffing around was just dumb footy. Kennelly had a clear break and a chance to drive it deep when were on a roll in the last stanza but decided a handpass to Bolton who was already at top and needed to steady before kicking, and got run down. Hawks had already got back just ahead of Bolton, hence took it away. A 50 metre kick would have caught them out.

Soon as we get pretty our discipline falls away.
