Brilliant effort for the rest of the game from quarter time. The moment Saddo was replaced by C.Bolton on Brown the Swans always had a sniff of it.

I dont remember ever being so stressed out for a longer period of time in my life as I was. At 3 quarter time, I was pacing around the room, I couldnt sit down. And then for the whole of the last quarter I was on the edge of my seat.

All I could think of during that last quarter was the Carlton match late in the season in 1996, when the Swans and the Blues traded 3 point leads throughout the entire last quarter of that match - with the Swans getting home in the end. And that game too was against the previous years winners.

I haven't been so positive during a match for a long long time. Once Brown was shut down, I had a feeling that the Swans may well be in with a chance all day. Usually I'm the last one to give the Swans any hope in those situations.

    Go you good thing!

I once agian walked out of the range of the TV when it got to that one point. I was on the net and watching tv and my friends all copped plenty of swear words before i walked away. Then my parents made me watch the last few minutes and i was pulling at my hair and making horrible squealing noises until we got that last goal! After last year I just can't take close games anymore!

But next week should be HUGE - everyone try to get your friends coming and make sure we have plenty of red and white to blow the colling-scum outta the water!

great win. just got back from the game. Lot's of sad lions on th eway out!!!

        A few comments.

Hall and Goodes (expecially 3Q) were great. The lions were the better side early but we hung with them. Saddo is not a CHB and was easily outclassed, out muscled and out thought. Roosy moved him to the wing at the 20 minute mark of the first quarter and the side balance improved quickly. His spot must be in doubt as he has lost all confidence. CB did a much better job on Brown and provided some run. Even when Barry went off the backline did not miss him.

I actually think some of the Saddington comments are a bit out of line.

Go back to the early season and you will see he is fine in that position. Clearly he is an athletic player who can use his ability to run and jump to advantage over forwards.

Should be pretty obvious to most that his fitness is way down on what it would need to be for him to be effective.

He ain't fit therefore he's struggling.

                Agree with Reggi.

Talks of Saddo not being in our best 22 are way off the mark.

In fairness, Saddo was only outmuscled on a couple of occasions.

Brown's first 2 goals came from a VERY soft free, which in my perhaps biased opinion was not there and a mark which was NEVER contolled to the ground. After that, with Brown's confidence up and Saddo's down, it became a struggle for him, agree on that.

I like saddo but if he is not fit he cannot play on a player like brown.

And the swans roll on great win. for what its worth Brown smashed Saddo I don't think you can make excuses for him he is unfit and out of form and will now miss the rest of the season atleast with a medial strain 4-6 weeks at best.

hope he gets a full preseason in and regains his best form.

. . . to the extent that he seems to have lost confidence in his own ability - today he seemed afraid to attack the ball and just focused on making body contact on Brown. The result was that he was always a metre from the contest - fatal against a player of Brown's strength and ability.

Saddo has copped flak from this list because he normally attacks the ball too much, going for every mark and not punching defensively.

I'd have to say I'd far rather see that than the frustrated player we saw today.

Thought Saddo was mostly unlucky today, having said that, I doubt we would have won if we had left him there all day!

Talk about nervous, in the last minute and a half, I got off the lounge and hid behind it, looking over the top. I wanted to be close to the floor in case of disaster...I was alert and alarmed hehe

For me, this victory erases the loss to the Dons in 1991 when we we stole defeat from the fragile jaws of victory. The reason it erases it is because we didn't give the Lions this game back the way we gave it back to the Dons in 1991!

                          We were cool under pressure!

Thank you to the REd and white fans who travelled for the game.
Great support you were in fine voice and heard with your support. Barry Hall commented on the amount there.

I am so excited I can hardly concentrate on anything - thanks to the guys - great contribution from Davis, Bolton x 2 etc as said above. The whole team stuck to their game plan and did us all proud.

For me, the obvious improvement from last week was our hardness, particularly by our backline who hardly gave their opponents room to fart.

Our foot skills after 1/4 time were very good. Certainly did not have a passenger.

                              Observations,

Mickeljohn gave a genuine centre bounce contest which created the chance for us to get first grab of the footy.
Then LRT rose to the occasion late in the game and did some match winning stuff. No problems in the ruck in the future.
Played a lot through the centre corridor as against last week where we went wide. Allowed Barry to lead down the centre.
Williams is officially the engine room of our team.
                              BBBH held his marks.
Fozzie put it together against a top side, hope he can go on with it.
We were much better at the stoppages, and if we keep improving in this area then it will be very timely come finals time.
                              Our crumbing was much better.
We are now talking finals right down to the boot studder, so there is a real buzz about their game. They have a sniff.
The 3 generals- Williams, Cressa and Maxfield did it again in the 2nd half. Maxfield and Williams were superb in the last stanza. When we finish games off well with victories these 3 are there when the whips are cracking.
Clanger count appeared to be almost a minus this week.

Leo, my apologies for giving you shalacking early in the season, that was the most disciplined game I have seen you play.

For all of his heart-in-your-mouth antics, Leo just sucks 3 and 4 forwards to him whenever he gets the ball, which invaluably creates other loose players (eg. Kennelly, Bolton, Mathews, Schauble etc).

Schauble was excellent for not the first time this year - in such good form he basically has to be given first crack at Tarrant.

And how far has Barry Hall come since losing the plot that day down at Geelong in 2001? Multiple misses and getting niggled in the first quarter, but these days he just keeps working and eventually became the game-breaker.
