    will we beat port

just wondering peoples honest opinion of our chances next week, our last showing against port was pretty good except our crap shots on goal in that 1st quarter,i think if we get off to the same start as last time but kick accurately instead weve got a very good chance?what happens if we beat port do we get a rest?

no... unless they really are finals chokers. i think they will be far too good unfortunately without Magic, Saddo, Ball et al... but we'll get a home game the week after though

The great thing is that Port want to play the swans as they see us as injury prone and easily beatable........quite like Collingwood last year.

BTW, It would appear for the naming of finals that if we beat Port, we would host the prelim in Sydney regardless of the MCG rule as it would be the higher ranked prelim. Correct?

CAN we beat them? Sure, I think we're capable of standing up to just about any side in the comp if we play to potential. The loss of Micky O will hurt, but he can be covered. Barry Hall and Nicky D have been a bit quiet in the last few weeks (Barry's Brisbane game notwithstanding) and they need to step up. Like us, IMHO Port are very even all over the ground and therefore will be hard to shut down.

WILL we beat them? If I had to bet on this, I would go with Port. They are in good form, the top team, on their home turf.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

OMG are you sure?? i always thought that if 3rd placed beat 2nd place, we'd be last in line... but now you mention it, its well worth researching... that would mean we are guaranteed of a home final at some stage because the AFL said they'd bank the 2nd week i think

It was channel 9 not 10, and yes, you're right, if Swans win they'll get a home preliminary final. IF they win!

No. At least, I'm 99% sure it won't.

As the name suggests, Qualifying Finals are for the purpose of determining the ranking of the top 4. How this works is that the 2 winners become 1 and 2, DEPENDING on where they finished in the H&A... ie, if Collingwood and the Swans win, C'wood will assume the #1 ranking, we have #2, Port (as the higher ranked loser) #3 and Brisbane (lower loser) #4.

It's unfortunately looking quite possible that if we and Brisbane win, our "home" preliminary final will infact be against Collingwood at the MCG. GREAT SYSTEM AFL!!!

Correct Charlie, the highest ranked winner gets the home prelim. We will only get a home prelim if we beat Port AND Collingwood beat Brisbane.

I could be cheering for Collingwood for the first time ever. Great team

I add my voice of agreement to Bart's and Charlie's.

When C9 stated that Brisbane wouldn't get a home PF even if they beat the Wobbles, they were assuming that Port beat Sydney.

The way the finals are set up we are looking good for getting to a PF.

If we win next week we go straight in (and at StadeOZ too if Collingwood win)

If we lose next week then we get play an SF at StadeOZ against either Freo or Essendon with Subiaco hangover. Either one should be beatable so again we get the PF (not at home but just maybe against Brisbane at the G, a neutral venue, if they can beat Collingwood).

So, we want Collingwood to get the same result we do next week!!
