    Danny Jacobs?

There seems to be alot of SnDon supporters talking about having to let Danny Jacobs go, rather than Lucas or Solomon.

What does everybody think about us doing a deal and picking him up?

Plays down back and while not overly tall does bat above his height and weight.

Could be a good pick up while we wait for LRT, Hunt & Powell to grow into the genuine KP backman we need.

Very good footballer. I would take him, no doubt. The question, would be, what would we have to give up?

But I would definitely take him.

Always be wary of trading with anyone, especially Essendon

Look at the duds they have offloaded to us over the years

      Bomford, O'Connor, Consodine

Maybe we can get rid of Warfe, Frosty etc - sounds fair to me !!!

I know sheeeeedy would want Jude or Saddo, but maybe Stevens
or Buchanan may be of interest.

I see Nicks of little trade value. He's 29 in 2004 and has lost form and injury prone.

Either keep him or de-list him

I wouldn't mind seeing Jacobs at the Swans, he is a good player and is still reasonably young. I have no idea though as to what player to give up to make the bombers satisfied. To answer your question Charlie, I went on the bombers website and it turns out that he was recruited from the Prahran Dragons, so nowhere near NSW.

He would solve our problems down back if he is available I reckon Sydney would be made not to chase him hard.Couln't see Essendon letting him go without a fight they would want a high draft choice or one of our promising youngsters or both for him

Trading will be frantic this year ie Dees Dogs & Blues languishing and needing to cut drastically, Plus, there are reputed cap concerns at Dons & Lions with deep lists, so I think this trading period will be the biggest in living memory! Jacobs would be a good pick up for us, but whether that is a real possibility??and lets face it, for trade bait we do not have much beyond our untouchables.

I doubt Lucas will make the AAT, in the end if he did leave he would most likely go to a vic team. Geelong keeps getting mentioned.

In any case it may all be resolved if Mercuri does as rumoured and retires at the end of this season, therefore relieving some substantial space.

sounds like the team structure doesnt suit jacobs...

Jacobs lost amid Dons' tall timber
                    03 September 2003 Herald Sun
                    By MARK STEVENS

AT 189cm and 88kg, you'd reckon Danny Jacobs would be content with life as a flanker floating between attack and defence.

Dockers on his mind? Essendon defender Danny Jacobs relishes the opportunity to play against big-name forwards.
                    Picture: Colleen Petch

But the truth is, all Jacobs wants to do is play on the big boys. If there's ever another chance for a gig at full-back, he'll be the first to put his hand up.

"I reckon I play better when I've got the responsibility of having a big-name player to stop. Hopefully the coaches take that into account and leave me down there," Jacobs declared yesterday.

"The first half of the year I got a lot of the tough jobs with blokes being injured. I pretty much got whoever was full-forward week in, week out. I loved it. It was good fun.

"I prefer the challenge of playing on the big players. I think it's a true measure of where you're at when you've got the superstars to play against."

Asking to be cast as purely a stopper deep in defence is a rare request, but Jacobs conceded he's felt a little lost since Dustin Fletcher, Sean Wellman and Scott Lucas took over the Bombers' main backline roles.

"It's been a bit difficult being thrown around in the last half of the year. It's a bit easier when you've got a cemented spot in the team. I've just got to deal with it.

"In the last couple of weeks, I've been up on the forward line. It's been pretty much about finding me a spot. Mark Bolton's been the same . . . they've been mixing it up.

"I can read the game a bit better down in defence, but Fletcher's the best full-back in the comp, so I can't see myself getting that spot with him there."

Against the free-wheeling Fremantle at Subiaco on Friday night, it is impossible to predict what role the mid-sized Jacobs will have. What is certain, though, is he will be there. The 23-year-old is the side's most permanent fixture. Jacobs hasn't missed a game since flu ruled him out out of a clash with Freo in Round 13, 2001. That's 58 straight, the longest run of anyone at Windy Hill.

Tempering the run of good luck is the fact he missed the 2000 premiership with a stress fracture that grounded him in Round 20 that year.

"I'm certainly not complaining, but it was pretty hard for me at that stage with the boys playing finals and winning a premiership," he said.

He was among Essendon's best in the 2001 Grand Final loss to Brisbane. Now he is desperate to go all the way, starting by smashing the travel hoodoo against Freo.

"I've got no idea what it is with our travelling record. If you've got any ideas, you can help us out," he joked.

But Jacobs is happy with the new travel plan and will be part of the first posse of Bombers to fly to Perth today.

"I think it's the fathers that are staying back. Some of the other players feel better getting there earlier. They reckon it's a better way to get used to the time difference," he said.

Bombers coach Kevin Sheedy has been Mr Positive all week (Jacobs thought he may have been grumpier after the loss to old enemy Collingwood) and it is clear Adam Ramanauskas's illness is still a major inspiration.

"I've known 'Rama' since we were 16. We used to play against each other in the under-18s and played Victorian under-16s together and everything," Jacobs said.

"He's going well. He's just his cocky self. He doesn't speak about it that often, though. We know how much he's given the club and all of us as mates. When he told us about his problem, he said he felt bad about letting us down.

"I think a lot of blokes woke up that if he feels that bad, we'd be letting him down if we didn't give it our best shot."

Jacobs wouldn't be surprised if Sheedy surprises at selection by going for young legs. And it could be first-year player Darren Walsh, the kid Jacobs thinks is pretty much Rama Mark II, who gets the call-up.

"Sheeds has said all year that it doesn't matter how many games you've played all year and that conditions suit a certain team and he'll change it at the drop of a hat," Jacobs said.

"Darren is identical to Rama. He plays exactly the same. He's a rubber-man like Rama, he can do things others can't. He's that quick and just so balanced. He could play, definitely. It would be a perfect ground for someone like him.

"Cory McGrath, Paul Barnard and Teddy Richards have been doing it pretty tough all year with ground time and coming in and out. I wouldn't be surprised if he brought all three in this week as well."

Those on the fringes wouldn't feel like a Sheedy favourite, but Jacobs is sure he and the coach have a good rapport, even if James Hird is clearly the coach's No. 1.

Jacobs, like Sheedy, grew up in the inner city. He spent 13 years in a South Melbourne commission flat with his mum, Iris, and three brothers.

But Jacobs reckons what makes Sheedy so special is his ability to interact with all kinds, including private school boys such as Richards.

Jacobs went to Hobsons Bay Secondary College and was a known wagger and mischief-maker. Richards is a product of exclusive Xavier College.

"We've got Teddy Richards who's a bit left-field, and he gets along with him pretty well," he said. "Teddy and me have completely different lifestyles, but Sheeds treats everyone the same."

He may as well take out a classified in the Age "Fullback for Sale."

He's not allowed to talk to other clubs while under contract - so he goes to the media and says "I will go wherever I get paid more and a permanent KP place." Good work, I reckon, Danny.

Yes we should take him, he would be aperfect fit for us, but we have nothing to buy him with except high draft picks or Ryan O'Keefe!!! Don't want to lose either.

I noticed that Jacobs is a South Melbourne raised boy . He would fit nicely into the Swans.

We couldn't possible consider a trade for Lucus - Sheedy would want a player and a 1st round pick.

We only gave up a 2nd round draft pick for Nick Davis. Anyway our 1st round pick will be well down the list.
