A few days ago I wondered on this board whether Richo might fill a need for us. I think the only response was a guy who said 'No more old farts'! I agree with the people saying it's a matter of how much it costs. In the long run we are going to get more out of people like LRT and Powell, or Stevens. But the guy needs a new club. If we can get him cheap, let's do it. If we can't, he'll be wasting space at Richmond and they'll be grist for our mill.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

      the silly season is here
"As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.

I'd have a serious look at it, because I really rate him as a footballer. The key is, what would we have to give up? With Richo being 29, I'm not prepared to give up too much to gain his services. How about Nicks and a 2nd round draft pick, or is that being too optimistic?

This bloke has an incredible amount of ability, he is a sook but if we can get him away from the limelight and the Melbourne media, then maybe he could be a valuable asset. He could play a running CHB role, becuase he has the best pair of hands in the business and his endurance is also excellent.

I'm not saying we should pick him up, but we should definitely not dismiss a player of his quality.

Richmond would only trade Richo for a top quality player and we don't have a top quality player available to offer them.

The guy has got potential, I always thought looking at him he was the kind of player who could dominate a game IF he wanted to, but at 29, and given what Richmond would want in return in a trade, it PROBABLY wouldn't be worth it, and that's even before considering his fragile mental state and history of dummy spits.

I shudder to think having Richo and BBBH in the same forward line...and we were worried about Plugger and BBBH last year!

If he is, or Richmond are, looking to part company, i would hope we do talk to him. Surely that is the job of every professional recruiter at any professionally run club.

Do i think we will get him-- NO

Do i think we want him-- NO

Do i expect us to talk to him if he is available-- YES

I think that Richo's best is past him, he is injury-prone and probably would cost a lot.

This just HAS TO BE a piss-take...there is no way known to man that any AFL team, other than Richmond, would want this goose...what...he played one decent game this year. He's almost as big a choker as Collingwood, not to mention a liability...let him stay at Richmond, at least his space on the list prevents them from getting a good player....
"Davis...Davis has kicked 2...he snaps from 40...dont tell me, dont tell me, hes kicked a goal....unbelievable stuff from Nick Davis, can you believe this, he's kicked 3 final quarter goals and Swans are within 3 points..."

Remember 1997 we had just lost a grand final people thought if we fill up this space here with a cheap proven player ( Richardson will not come cheap) then next year we will be able to have a real go at the cup didn't happen seven years later looks like were going to be plugging holes again.

Look at Brisbane they stuck with youth let there defence build up as in Leppitch, Michael and now Bradshaw and they have three cups we don't want a plug we want something like Brisbane has and I believe give those young guys a chance as in - Dempster,LRT,James,Hunt,Malkeski and we will have a real go for at least three years.

We did the hole plugging at the expense of giving the young kids a fair go. Bolton and Fosdike looked like they were mistakes under Eade with the little game time he would give them, now they are Roos and playing alot more and look at the improvement. Saying that we did make the prelim final this year and it would be stupid if we didn't go all out to win the flag next year. We made mistakes doing that before, as long as we learnt from them and do thing differently and get up with blooding the young'ins then we should go after ready made players, as long as they are young (23-27), fit our needs (CHB, Ruck, Mid) and don't cost too much.

Stick with the youth, we did really well this year, it would be great to go 2 games better next year but not at the expense of draft picks. Whilst it would be unbelievable to win a flag next year, is it really gunna happen? IMHO I think 2005/6/7 will be our big years and we should be a little patient.

I would rather watch the Swans lose for a while fighting hard and giving 100%, than watch a patchwork side slapped together in the vain hope we could fluke a GF. Like the whole Richardson thing - it ain't gunna happen.
