    Malaxos Adidos

Assistant coach Steve Malaxos has today tendered his resignation from the Sydney Swans as he looks to further advance his coaching career.

"I've had a great five years at the Swans but now I feel it's time to move on," he said.

"This has been an extremely gratifying year and I believe the Club is well positioned for the future but from a personal point of view I need to look forward as I seek to advance my career.

"While I don't have anything concrete at the moment there are some great opportunities out there and now seems an ideal time to make the move."

Senior coach Paul Roos said; "For the past five years Steve has had an enormous input into the development of our list and I have no doubts we would not have made the Preliminary Final this year without him.

"Certainly his work on developing our midfield brigade has been tremendously significant, the likes of Adam Goodes, Jude Bolton, Nic Fosdike and Brett Kirk having benefited greatly from Steve's expertise.

"Steve's leaving will be a huge loss to the Club and whilst we would have loved him to stay I totally understand his motivations and wish him all the best in the future.

That's a shame, I always thought he seemed like a very intelligent, well-spoken guy - always enjoyed the interviews with him at the after-match functions. Best of luck to him.

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

That coaches-in-waiting room is getting awefully crowded. He must have something already lined up.

Does that mean he's going for a senior coaching position? I hope we don't miss him too much.

I wish him the best. He's been great for Sydney over the years.

Interested in what they'll do to replace him. Dunks is after a coaching position??? Will they move him back to Sydney and reshuffle the coaches?

Can we get Damien Drum back? He was such a great assistant coach. Was just given a dud pack of cards at Freo. 5 years later and they're only just now reaping the rewards of mediocrity.

Sadly no, he has an 8 year contract with the Victorian People
                Once was, now elsewhere

Well... he did... remember how much he complained when Bracks cut it to four?

For those who don't know, Drum is now a member of the Victorian upper house of parliament.

It will be very interesting to see where Malaxos goes . He has already coached at WA level and there are no vacancies at AFL Head Coach level but presumably he would have a job lined up already. We shall see.

Maybe he's headed to Port to help Williams get the team on the field on time!

Maybe. There is a rumour going around that he may be heading towards St Kilda with a deal to take over from Grant Thomas if the Saints do not measure up next year.

Not sure how high his profile is, certainly compared to the likes of Mark Harvey and Gary O'Donnell. You'd have to think those two would be top of the list of rookie coaches in waiting having served long apprenticeships under Sheedy and Matthews.

While it's sad to see someone leave, there are some positives for the club because it gives them the chance to bring a fresh face and fresh ideas into the organisation. I was struck by a comment made recently by Roos that a lot of the credit for freeing up Goodes and having faith in him should be attributed to Jonas. As a new arrival he was able to look at Goodes on face value and see all the positives without being weighed down by some of the past frustrations the coaches had experienced, including Roos himself.

Seemed to have been someone who made a big contribution - wish him all the best.

They'd probably want to bring someone in who is far removed from the clulture of the club.

                              How about Grant Thomas
