If the right player in the 25-29 age bracket became available and we could get good trade value, fair enough. But we don't need to trade for experience for the sake of it.

The big difference, I think, to the post-96 years is that we appear to have a pretty solid group of guys under 23yo. Many of them have had little or no AFL experience yet, but they are on their way. Therefore, unlike then, I don't think it would hurt us now to pick up useful 25-28yo or two.

I think Lekkas would fit that and I would be willing to give up something to get him - some sort of draft pick wouldn't be a calamity. I don't think we could get him too cheap, but if we can get him for a reasonable price, then why not.

        Lizz,

Surely the club has no set rules as to what age our players have to be? Quality is what we want regardless of their age, for mine.

haha, the off season has arrived well and truely....

Personally, I wait and see who is AVAILABLE and then see who the club PICKS UP.

I prefer to argue the merit of a DONE DEAL rather then argue about players who haven't even decided if they are staying at a club....

But after reading the original post, I wonder if Angelo would be all this upset if the reason Rawlings was dumped was so the club had more money so they could offer him a better deal? lol

Honestly I think having another half forward flanker/ midfielder is not worth it our problems this year were not our forward line it was our back half and at times our ruck.

There are plenty of players around to replace Cressa a tough ask but imagine Kennelly or Saddo up on a wing and Dempster or LRT in a KP whe dont need another Matthew Nicks

I think it's a bit harsh to lump Lekkas in with Nicks. Lekkas is a pretty good midfielder, and we could always do with a couple more of them.

Wish people would stop giving Nicksy a spray. I'm the first to admit that his best football is behind him, but he played some excellent football for us. A little respect for the man wouldn't go astray.

You may well be correct in regard to the the needs of the team but Roos has publicly stated that the top priority is a mid fielder. While Lekkas did get 39 goals this season he is really a mid fielder who was forced to play up forward a lot of of time because of necessity . I think that you are underestimating his ability. He is tough and committed and would be a tremendous replacement for Cressa . The chances of obtaining him may be zero but I think that it is well worth the try .

Of course you may be right but I still think an injurie down back ie Craig Bolton or Schuable could destroy our season we need some experienced not to old backliners to help them out

you know I was only just thinking that same thought yesterday after epressing my opinion about Richo. But I guess it keeps footy alive for a bit longer.

Nicks is a flanker. Lekkas is a good midfielder, hence should not be lumped in with Nicks. Nicks is not playing well, but Lekkas is. The comparison was not that meaningful, hence my point.

So much for thoughts on Lekkas. I feel a lot of the players use the media to advance their contractual talks.

                          Lekkas poised to re-sign

                          afl.com.au

Despite reports that he was at loggerheads with the Hawks, midfielder Angelo Lekkas is set to re-sign with the club for a further two years.

Speaking from the Gold Coast, Lekkas? manager Jacques Khouri said that he expected his client to agree to a new contract by Friday or Saturday at the latest.

?The Hawthorn football club have been very good to Angelo and all negotiations up to this stage have been going very well,? Khoury told 3AW.

?We anticipate within the next 24 to 48 hours we would be signing a new contract which would keep Angelo there until the end of his playing days.?

It had been reported on Thursday that Lekkas was close to quitting the Hawks over the club's handling of his renegotiations.

?I told the club I did not want them to go to the paper and say I?d recommitted? but they did. It?s come out that I?ve signed ? and I haven?t. I was really disappointed they did that to me,? Lekkas told the Herald Sun.

Khouri said however that any misunderstandings had been well-and-truly cleared up and that Lekkas was poised to re-sign for a further two years.

?Most of the day has been spent talking to (Hawthorn CEO) Steve Leighton and to Angelo and up to this stage, things have progressed quite well.?
