Simon Beaumont

I see he is up for Trade. Now I am not sold either way, but does anyone have a strong opinion on Beaumont for Sydney?

He is 28 (4 good years maybe);
He can kick goals
Play tall
Carltons leading marker this year
More naturally talented than Snapper or Schaubes

Do we have a role for him or is he just an older verson of Saddo?

Is he not hard enough at it for Sydney's style?

He's actually OK but nowhere near the talent of Saddington/Powell etc. Mature bodied player but no point that I can see in picking him up. Would get a game for a year or two, but that's it. No real increase in the value of the Swans with him in the team.

A lot of Carlton fans seem very keen to trade Beaumont. Given they have lots of targets for their angst, this doesn't say a huge amount for the guy.

Was a very good player a couple of years back but don't think he's really what the Swans will be looking for.

Schauble more than makes up for it though with knowing when to run off his man, where to stand, when to bump and just generally always has a go. Beaumont doesn't really seem to do that anymore.

I?m not saying Beaumont is the answer, but I think we need to bolster our tall defence, to cover injuries etc and give time for youngsters to come on, we cannot pick up Scarlett, Fletcher and co so we may have to introduce a little more pragmatism in who we pick up IMHO

We must add a tall defender I feel of the best quality "we can get".

I seem to recall picking up 2 players from a struggling Collingwood in recent times that turned out ok!

I am not saying SB is for us, however we do lack depth in tall defenders and the reality is, he is a good player who might come here for little expense.

So suddenly any player that comes from a club that is struggling is a bad player, what the @@@@!!!!!!!!!!!!

If yoy take that veiw to the extreme then Paul Kelly circa 1991 to 1994 was an absoute dud, come on people get a grip out there.

We all bagged the Richo as a CHB option, but if Beaumont is on the market for the rumoured 3rd round pick then this is the perfect deal for Sydney waiting to happen. A mature aged body that can play down back and play tall, would make a great back-up for Schuabs, Bolton and Saddington while we wait for the expected progression of Powell, LRT and Hunt.

As for why Carlton is trading him, it is becuase Carlton need all the third round draft picks they can get so they are at least competing for young talent in the draft pick range of 36 to 51. They need to offload some decent ready made players that will allow them to get those 3rd picks.

IMHO this is a great bargin basement buy that would add to the side right now and for the next 4 years.

Ok if hes available and we cant get someone better like Michael or Solomon then by all means lets add him to our playing list for a couple of years.
