I agree with Wardy. Just because other clubs do it and charge more for it doesn't make it right. Let's not be sheep; why not do something for those fans who have spent the extra $75 for the premiership club membership in the event they don't make it to the GF? Wardy's suggestion of a GF BBQ etc is a good one.
Don't forget that impecuniosity will preclude some people from taking up the offer. It isn't really equitable (particularly when the memberships don't all arrive to the members on the same day - as evidenced on this site) and is nothing more than an income booster.
      Bring it on!

Lizz is absolutely right in her assessment of the $75 and it is a risk you either insure (pay the money) or you self-insure (don't pay and take the gamble that they either won't make the grannie or you can get the tix via other means).

As for the premium ($75) well I don't think you will get a better price to put a grand final ticket on hold. HOWEVER, with only 4000 places, the offer looks less attractive.

By the time I make my mind up on this one, I suspect they will be all gone.

I hope they have a separate quota of GF tickets than the 4000 mentioned for the Melbourne members as we haven't even received our memberships yet.

My understanding is that it will be on a pro rated basis so yes that will be tha case.

But it will mean you need to get your membership in quick smart which also helps the club out by increasing cash flow before Christmas.

Does anybody have any idea as to why Melbourne members haven't received their membership packages? (Note; I haven't checked the mail today) Or am I the only one?

You're right that some people won't be able to afford this option, just like some people can't afford to buy a membership in the first place and some can't afford to go to the GF. Unfortunately that's a fact of life and the Swans are running a business.

Do agree that it's unfair if the membership packages don't all arrive at the same time. As of Friday morning I still haven't received mine (though as a Redback this doesn't matter for me).

As for the pricing, the market will tell the Swans whether $75 is reasonable or not. If they don't sell the full quota of 4,000 they've priced it too high; if they're massively oversubscribed I guess it was too low. Will be interesting to see in the long run how "sticky" these memberships are. I guess there will be a lot of people rushing to get them this year on the back of last year's success, whereas a year ago demand would probably have been a lot lower.

As for the suggestion of a barbecue or something if the Swans don't make it, bear in mind that tickets to the official club functions (eg B&F, Guernsey Presentation) cost around $130. I know you're not suggesting anything quite that grand, but it does put the $75 option price into some perspective.

In past years Melbourne based membership have come out quite a few weeks after Sydney based ones

With only 4,000 premiership club places, it's not fair that not everyone got their membership renewals at the same time. I was lucky - I got mine on Wednesday and booked my premiership club place over the net that night. I've got no idea how many people haven't got theirs yet, but hopefully it won't already be sold out by the time they do.
Most other clubs do it, so I'm not surprised at Sydney going down that route. And some charge a premium of more than $75 for a guarantee - Essendon charged $90 last year.
I'm sure the premiership club places will sell out, and that will make the competition for queue tickets for full club members even tighter, with a lower proportion of them having a chance of getting tickets. But rather than being decided by a race to a secret location near the Superdome (it would have been anarchy if the last quarter at Stadium Australia had gone differently), I think it would be better if queue tickets were mailed out to members before the prelim final, with priority order being determined by how many home games (or Victorian games for Victorian members) were attended - and with barcoded tickets it shouldn't be too hard to track that.

But one dilemma - if the Swans don't make the grand final, how am I going to explain to my Essendon mates that I paid $75 for a Swans scarf?

That would discourage people who know they can't attend many games from taking out memberships - which doesn't make sense from the club's point of view. Who's to say that people who attend all games are necessarily "better" supporters of the club than those who are prepared to shell out their money even though they can't go to them all?

I can see the delay with people getting renewal packs causing a huge stink if the Premiership Club places sell out before some even get their pack. I guess you can renew on the internet before even receiving your pack, but few would think to do this.

Actually.... that's the first thing I thought to do.

BUT.... to be able to renew online, you need to have the reference number that is sent to you (by post) with your membership renewal pack ..
