Perhapes , we could at sometime in the future use the troy Luff medal to honor something more appropriot like best club man or most improved player ect.
Perhapes the best player could be called the Charlie Goodman medal, or maybe the Ron Barrassi or the Paul Roos Cup or somthing...Hell I don't know .

Well, I can tell you now, there will never be an award run by me carrying my name... I'm not that egotistical.

And I have no intention of changing the name now... it was accepted after I suggested it last year... So the only way it will be changed is by a direct overrule from Des.

It's all a bit of fun, hence the TLM is a perfect name for it, as well as the reasons stated above. Don't take it so seriously.

I'm sure Goodesy WOULD appreciate the gesture of a bunch of avid supporters getting together for some fun and showing their appreciation of his efforts.

If the Club called their B&F the TLM, that would be an insult to the truly great players of the Club and worthy of getting upset about (no insult to Luffy intended).

You're right Tree, this is a fan's award and Troy Luff was a player for the fans. The only improvement I could make to the current concept is to include another award, perhaps called the Bomford Trophy, for best player performance by a nugget.

Charlie, I don't think I've EVER seen you stay out of an argument lol

I have never voted in the TLM either.

So it's not insulting if the fans do it?
            why strive for mediocrity.

Look I don't really care all that much.
            I don't agree, so I don't vote.

              yes

don't get me wrong - not meant to be disrespectful to Troy

i actually admire that he was able to play AFL for so long despite limited talent (IMO)

frankly, he was not in my best 22 and never a favourite of mine

it is also generally accepted that he was more a best clubman type than a best player type (and his involvement in this site is great)

having said that, i am happy to go along with the majority, so just don't vote, as is my right

"As a player he simply should not have been able to do the things he did. Leo was a 185cm, 88kg full-back and played on some of the biggest, fastest and best full-forwards of all time, and constantly beat them." Roos.
Leo Barry? you star! We'll miss ya, ''Leapin''.

The Brownlow Medal was named for Charles Brownlow because he was the greatest CLUBMAN that the game had seen up to that time. He had served Geelong FC for more than half a century as player, captain, coach and secretary. In fact, at the time it was recorded that the medal was actually named after him for his services as an ADMINISTRATOR.

I'm sure we all noted at this year's ceremony how totally demeaned Goodes, Ricciuto and Buckley were by receiving a medal named for a football administrator.

The TLM was named for Luffy because the overwhelming majority of people involved thought that it was appropriate. As far as I can tell, that hasn't changed.

There will always be the odd dissenter to any popular decision.

                  Who cares??!
