Good to se the Swans doing something towards accomplishing something

thst stuff doesn't happen overnight, and his is the first step.

He's kidding himself if he thinks he will increase membership in Melbourne next year. I predict they will lose up to 1000 members unless they lower the price or do some bulk deal to guarantee seats at the Geelong game for no extra payment. I still feel like a poor relation compared to the Sydney members. I don't believe the club really pushed the AFL for more, or at least the same number, of Melbourne games. We will be asked to pay $90 for 5 or in effect 4 games. Richmond members get 11 games for $135.

$90, gee that will be cheap if we get it for that price. I bet we pay a fair bit more than that.

Also GF Preference is getting a much lesser value each year, with the chances of us ordinary supporters of getting a GF ticket with GF pref. more remote as time goes by. Regardless of the changes to the MCG, which doesn't provide any more seats than it did before, not at least for the real footy fan.

It is just like Cox Plate Day at the races. They put the price up to $50, offer nothing more or even less, and the crowd goes down by 8000. Dur.

What added value can Morwood give us down here. The only added value to us is more footy. Perhaps he can throw in a free leftover 1996 GF tee shirt or a free wine at the door of after matches. Or even more revolutionary, let the fans in the rooms after the sparse number of games we get down here. That was great for the kids while it lasted. When that stopped my boys lost interest in after matches. They were too young to want to go to the pub after games, plus it was just too crowded for them. Haven't been since.

When the after matches were at the Melbourne Cup Club it was more open and player accessable.

Hope he comes up with some real doosies because he will need to as Anne alluded to.

General admission into the SCG is $22. For 12 Swans games, the base membership is $175. With a reserved seat, I pay over $300.

It takes me 2 hours to get to the SCG from home.

So $18 for 5 games is too much???

In Sydney, we can only ever see one game live on a weekend. In Melbourne, you can go up to 5 games. Now I know many will say they only watch if the Swans play BUT it's a SYDNEY team playing out of Sydney.

If I were in Melbourne, I'd love to see other teams play and would probably follow a second team or just go to the footy and watch other teams play just because I love footy.

Anne, a move to Sydney perhaps. My local mayor is bloody hopeless. Take the boys away from that bad Carlton influence.

Well, you get 12 games for $175, which is less than $15 per game, so it is cheaper, however not significantly so.

Same. I like the game so I quite enjoy going to other games, which is why I'm really pleased to be back in Melbourne. And I get to go to the football with my dad now too!!

177th Senior AFL Match - Round 4, 2009 - Sydney vs Carlton, SCG. This is obviously out of date. I suppose I'll update it once I could be bothered sitting down with the fixture and working it out....

Although Sydney born, I'm now a Melbourne fan, a fairly new one. Let's see what they can come up with - maybe I'll progress from fan to member...

Gee, I hope for some of your sakes Morwood fails dismally to improve the lot of Melbourne supporters. What else are you going to have to whinge about???

The Swans are doing something to improve matters in Melbourne. Why not jump on board, see what you can do to help, or at least wait a while before deciding it's all doomed to fail.

Lizz this is not something new, we have seen this all before only for things to be downgraded when it starts to cost the club too much money. Don't get us wrong we are happy to see the club finally acting on things down here, but so far we haven't seen anything of note except for Morwood being hired and the new CEO vowing the club will take more notice of issues down here.

We support this club no matter what and all we want is a fair go which sadly some of you Sydney-siders are intent on making sure doesn't happen

I'm going to wait until the end of next year before I make a judgement. Morwood's only been in Melbourne for a couple of weeks and with the change of CEO, it looks like they haven't been able to do as much as they would probably like to. A year should be enough to see whether it works or not.

I still cannot believe this "I am not joining because...." we ARE joining because we support our team, win lose or draw...or draw, we have said it before, the money goes to the club and we support our team it's the only team we have.

Let them know what we want changed or what we don't like, but don't withdraw your support. Come on, we need to show our member numbers officially just to shut up the Eddies, McMahons and Jacksons of this world!

Give Morwood a chance to get involved and then let's pass judgement. There is at least Souths blood in the Morwood veins!

Absolutely right Rob-bloods, lets give Morwood some time before we start bagging him. It would seem that the new administration at the club is keen to loosen the purse strings and build some infrastructure in Melbourne such as a home base etc, need to wait and see on this.

Just a few facts to add to the above debate:

Membership for the 5 games in Melbourne last year was $70.00 not $90.00. That is $14.00 per game and a discount to the $15.50 you pay at the gate. If you wanted a shot at GF tickets then you paid an extra $20.00 to secure that right which all clubs are now doing in some from or other at an additional cost. To say membership is more expensive down here in Melbourne than elsewhere is a falacy, all clubs set there general admission membership per games at around the $1.00 to $1.50 per game less than walk up fee.

If you opt out of taking up a membership and just pay at the gate then that Victorian club gets your cash not the Swans. Which is something none of us woudl like to see.

We were both wrong. I have the form here - it was $79 for 5 games. Of course I will still join next year ( in fact I pay for a family membership as well as one for my mother) but I think a lot of other members may well think twice. Most are not as obsessed as I am.
