so what really did happen ? in your fabulous club history , your own words were ' the clubs financial position slipped further into decline as did the on-field performance' and also you quoted jack marks from 1981 at board meeting discussing our financial position 'we are gone'
you appear to be the expert but i do remember you bagging warwick capper earlier this season. i replied to your post that your criticism was unfair. you replied that you only began to support the swans in 1988, after capper played for the swans.
so now you are telling me that i am showing a complete lack of knowledge of what really happened.
here are some facts- swans had only played in 2 finals series since 1945-( 1970,1977). this led to dwindling crowds and memberships. resulting in a poor financial position
- limited sponsorship - as they were not a consistent finalists
-the club was nearly bankrupt and owed big dollars
-after playing in sydney on a sunday ,the club believed that it might be able to survive by relocating. the club management at that time knew if they stayed in melbourne they would be declared bankrupt
-vfl push to play sunday football thwarted by victorian labour govt. sunday football in sydney telecast live on tv to melbourne was what vfl became interested in

these are just a few facts about why swans moved to sydney.
suggested reading is 'football ltd' by garry linnell.
the point is that whether you are from perth, melbourne ,cairns or sydney , if you are a swans fan support the club and get behind them, as we all belong to the one club.
i would like to see the melbourne members receive a fair deal in terms of games played in melb and value for money. but as i stated previously we don't even have 5000 members in melbourne ,yet the estimates are 15000 swans fans at the melb games. so it is about time melbourne fans stood up . you will surely receive a better go from the club if there is a substantial number of you. yes , we in sydney are fortunate in that we receive 12 games compared to 5-6 a season in melb, but there is over 20000 sydney members

When i first joined as a member (in 1991, after the club had spent 10 years in Sydney) i believe there were less members collectively in Sydney and Melbourne (under 5000) than there were in Melbourne when the Swans left Melbourne (approx 6000).

So your point about member numbers is...?

Bottom line - we need more games in Melbourne.

Excuse me, but I wasn't bagging him for what he did on the field, but OFF IT. He was a good player and did very well, but his off field antics, while helping give us a profile in Sydney were shocking. In response to my original post you said "yeah but i bet u , robbieando , that u were cheering for him when he was kicking goals for us and we were winning matches" so I said "Nope, because I didn't start following the club until 1988 after he left the club. When he came back in 1991 I couldn't care less what he did in 86 and 87". Hardly in the true context you put it in above.

We weren't the only club the VFL tried to move up to Sydney, and in the late 70's the VFL tried to move Fitzroy to Brisbane. However the main reason why we had to move was because the VFL withheld payment of money owed to us for ground improvement which would of paid off our debts, thus forcing us to look at Sydney as a viable option which the Clubs Members rejected, only for the new board of the club to declair there was no other option because of the actions of the VFL.
