    Really like to have him.

Just a question. Could he nominate for the National draft, and we could pick him up there, with a later pick? I seem to remember other players who have left clubs and been picked up in the national draft. Or do you have to have been delisted to nominate for the national draft?

    Anyone know?

it might have something to do with him not being delisted by richmond, rather he is out of contract and i think that contracts run out after the national draft, but i may be very wrong...

You have to be delisted in order to nominate for the national draft.

and just to add that I doubt Richmond will delist him as they are desperate to keep him. They will try to persuade him to stay rather than ending up where he doesn't want to go.

?I think we?ve got a very good chance of keeping him. I saw in the press today he was in Sydney, but look, the chances of him getting to Sydney I think are next to nil.?

?Sydney have made promises before they haven?t been able to keep, so we?ll see what happens,? Miller told radio station Sport927 on Wednesday.

The plot thickens. Looks like the Tigers rate the SWANS no chance of picking up Hall.

It's possibly a reference to a promise they made to Tony McGuiness in the 1996(?) pre-season draft before the AFL ruled they didn't have sufficient room in their salary cap to take him.

I suspect it's a situation many clubs have found themselves in from time to time.

And did a similar thing happen with (new assistant coach) Ross Lyon?

Yes, we agreed to pick him up with our 2nd Pick in the Pre Season Draft of 1995 after Paul Roos, but before the Draft the AFL informed the club that we could only fit Roos within our salary cap regardless of weather Lyon took a cut in his agreed salary or not. We passed with our 2nd Pick and he ended up at Brisbane.

With McGuniness it was the 1997 Pre Season Draft, Lizz and it was a simular case to above except the AFL deemed we could fit in a 1st year player on mininium salary, so we picked John Stevens up instead. McGuniness sued us I think to get the money we agreed with him out of us. I never did hear what that outcome was.

I am surprised that the Tiger has to resource to this tactic. If they consider this as their best card, Hall's departure from the Tiger has to be very imminent.

I'm not sure what the swans have in mind, but i think we will find it extremely difficult to get him in the psd.

geelong and north both had enough space in their cap to fit rawlings in and i can't see them overlooking him should he become available

the fact that hall doesn't want to live in geelong (or interstate) is irrelevant when you nominate for the draft and who knows which of the other interstate clubs may consider him an attractive prospect

the bottom line is that if we really wanted him we should have ensured that a deal was done in trade week, having not done that we face the risk of losing him to another club

having said that it would be a great coup if the club did manage to snaffle him for nothing in the psd

                            Just on Ray Hall,
I have had a bit of a snoop around the Richmond sites, and the general appraisal of Ray is that he did not do much while at the tigers, and that having been injured for most of 2003, he is possibly just a hack who is on his last chance , or is just about to turn the corner and become a valuable player.
                            I certainly hope the latter.
I wouldn't mind the Swans giving him a one or two year contract, anything more than that would be a big risk IMO.

Its amazing how nearly everyone here has made an about face regarding Ray Hall. During the trade period, many people were saying that there was no way we should trade for Ray Hall, that he was useless, a hack. All of a sudden he is the saviour and everyone wants a piece of him, and it sounds like you'd all be devastated if we didnt get him. What has changed in those few weeks? Have some of you been having secret training sessions with him?

Or maybe you want him to open up a juice bar in Sydney with you!

Plenty of clubs will not participate in the draft as their salary cap will prevent it, clubs won't pick him up if they have to pay his set wage and he decides not to play for them.

Will we probably end up with pick seven with picks one and two certain, it is not beyond possibility.
