I just booked our flights and accomodation for Hubby my sister and I. We're making the most and staying a couple of nights.

JF: We would also appreciate some info on tickets with the cheer squad when you have spoken with Patrice. If I'm paying all this money to go up, I want to sit with you guys and not surrounded by Lions supporters.

I can't wait!!!! forget Christmas and Santa. This will be my first trip to the Gabba ever so I'm very excited.
Here's my heart and you can break it
I need some release, release, release
    We need
    Love and peace

That is good thinking on your part not wanting to be surrounded by Lions supporters even though they would be more civilised than the Port supporters that I was caught amongst last year . I am going to the Port match again 2004 but will seek out our cheer squad.

I just booked my accomodation for the Saturday Night and got a great deal at the 4 star Medina Executive Brisbane for a single room for $76. So those looking save a bit on cash on their accomodation, you best check this out (I booked though Flight Centre, so try them instead of looking over the internet)
        Once was, now elsewhere

we're staying in Wickham Terrace a few minutes walk from the city and it's $63 each for 2 nights. That's booked online via Qantas. It was apart of a short escape holiday pack though.

Yeah that would be my worry too - I'm thinking of going in Round 1, and I hope the Brisbane supporters aren't as bad as the Lions fans we encountered on the train on the way to the Preliminary Final - these guys had had a bit to drink (this was already before the game) and came through our carriage rowdily singing the Lions' song, then the rest of the carriage drowned them out with a spontaneous rendition of "Cheer Cheer", that sure put them in their place, not surprisingly they sheepishly left the carriage after that

Generally the only Cheer Squad that travels is their Melbourne-based one. Their SCG travelling party is normally very small, as it was at the final. Brisbane apparently had 5000 fans at the Prelim. I seriously doubt that. Or maybe it was the PASSION of those in RED & WHITE that drowned them out so much that you never even knew they were there at all.

On the whole I find Brisbane fans pretty mellow. You can go up and just have a yarn to most of them, and they'll be twice as friendly back. There IS this northern states brotherhood there, which is surprising because normally Queenslanders hate us "Cockroaches".

The Gabba is in my view the best ground in the league. I'll be a little more pro-active in getting a few more Swans supporters to come and sit with us behind the goals next season. The bigger the group, the better the atmosphere.

There weren't really that many Brisbane fans at the prelim - the guys on the train were fairly harmless, I just thought it was a funny story

The northern states brotherhood thing is a little strange considering that every year around State of Origin time we get nothing but NSW v QLD in the media. But as far as AFL goes, better them than Collingwood, I say.
