In regards function for Redbacks what would you be looking at doing.
My husband and I are new Redbacks members for 2004 and received today notice re seating at the Stadium.
Of course it is too late for reply - supposed to be done by 23 Jan.
Will phone club tomorrow re this seating.

Would love to attend function beforehand at NSO. If you need any help let me know.

Janpa,
Redbacks function got cancelled because of lack of information. However, we are still trying to get a block booking for redbacks - the objective is to build the redbacks as a group who know each other and socialise as well as do other things together. We have a partial email list of redbacks members, but are stilll waiting on an update from the club. A newsletter will go out this weekend or early next week. Please email me - [email protected] - with your email so that I can check that we have your email address, we are concerned that our list is incomplete! The redbacks have been more active this year with its membership, monthly newsletters during the season etc.
(note this applies to any other redbacks too!)
Committtee meetings are held at Harry Macasey's (sp?) pub in Alexandria on the first wednesday of each month and all redbacks are welcome. We have new blood on the committee again this year, with hopes to develop the group.

Hey, I think I may be in the same boat, there are rumours floating around that my nieces 1st birthday will be held then too. Other relatives have dipped out on occasion, so I think it may be my turn.

Ruckman, i seriously reckon you should take this matter to Consumer Affairs. Or at least to Myles Baron-Haye at the club. The latter said the club had an open door policy of dealing with member concerns. It is time he proved it. But he can only be made prove it if something brings their dissatisfaction to his attention.

A) Such unprofessionalism from those in that office should not be tolerated. It indicates a complete ignorance to the wishes of supporters to be informed. And the fact that they can write something they latter wish to deny. An honest oversight on behalf of the Swans administration or membership department? If so, it is highly embarrassing. And should be attended to immediately in one of those Juice Media emails we all get.

B) Just when I thought SSI was spooking many of those at the club to have a good look at itself (in respect of its constitution at the very least), here we have a member of staff calling one of our supporters "you people", as if to intimate that we are either lower class ratbats or constant whingers out to get what we can out of everything. And they have the temerity to wonder why people won't rejoin as club members.

I don't know why, but things like this fill me with utter rage. Sure I can afford $14 for a seat. But it is the principal of the issue that needs addressing, and fast.

LOL, I actually applied for the position as Paul's assistant in the Membership Department. There would not be a chance in hell's chance of somebody like ME ever getting a job in the Sydney-based office.

A) I'd not be scared in upsetting people if I don't like what the "agreed policy" is. And I will NEVER kiss the butts of those in high places to develop my career. Wouldn't tolerate football-ignorance either. Learning about the Swans is learning about the people at matches and being at one with how they are feeling about things. All the TAFE degrees in the world will never gain you a real understanding of this.

B) If a member was making a stupid request, I'd tell them it was stupid. (Years of working as a parrot in call centres has turned me into a somewhat gnarled individual with little patience for idiots.) I got into some arguments with Shane Harmon, but man, I miss the fact that he gave a stuff enough as a supporter to say "Hey Julian, you are way overboard here!"

C) I know too much. I'm known around the place pretty much everywhere. People know I'll not fob them off with party line if things aren't well within the team or club.

Interestingly, all tickets are GA. No 'stand' pricing as in previous years. Looks like you'll need to be an early show to get a decent seat, or stand.

Where should the Cheer Squad and noisemakers sit

Taking about this match, I have been thinking for some time as to the best spot for the Cheer Squad to situate itself. Considering the recent enthusiasm shown by several RWOers to try and improve the chanting and singing, I was kind of hoping we could get a group of RWO regulars together with the CS to help out getting a few more songs going. May I put it to the forum as to the best place for the Cheer Squad and hopefully the rest of the RWOers to congregate on match day?


In previous years the Cheer Squad has stood in several places. Firstly it was under the tree, then 2 years ago it was in the first row of the McCartney stand undercover area, where we were able to get some great chanting and singing going. Plus it was in the shade. But it was very cramped waving big flags up there. And you couldn't see the scoreboard either from there.

I was kinda thinking of going back to the spot I used to watch Northern Spirit matches in in the Bob Stand on what would be the half-forward line for footy. We could even get a standing bay if security allowed it. Complete with a drum getting the chanting going. But at 4-7pm the sun is very very bad at that time from the Bob Stand. But it would be the easiest in terms of keeping loud people together in an enclosed space.

The area under the tree sucked as far as I was concerned. No room, little seating, and when Essendon were shooting for goal bits of tree were falling down on top of us. OH & S problem if ever there was one. Not fun waving a big flag there as well.


The other option is just plonking ourselves on the hill like most rugby league flag groups do. But watching the game from centre wing just doesn't do it for me. And with our big flags it would look very strange being on the hill. Especially having to get up off the grass every time we kicked a goal. Plus the hill is very open, so there is little chance to create much atmosphere.

Tickets to the annual AFL exhibition match at North Sydney oval, between the Sydney Swans and Essendon Bombers, are now on sale through Ticketek outlets.

This annual event, to be held on Saturday February 14 from 3.30pm, has become a very popular fixture in Sydney's sporting calendar and is the first AFL match played in Australia each year.


Gates will open at 1pm with players from both clubs presented to the crowd and available for an autograph session pre-match from 1.30pm.

At half time eight schools from the North Shore will take part in an AFL Auskick demonstration under the guidance of AFL Auskick ambassador Robert "Dipper" Dipierdomenico.

Tickets are available from Ticketek by phoning 9266 4800, on the internet at www.ticketek.com, through Ticketek outlets, or on match day unless sold out prior.

All tickets will be general admission and prices are: $15 for an adult, $10 for concession and children under 16 free.

The above prices do not include the Ticketek booking fee.

Regarding the entry fee for members for NSO. This is from an email that the Swans sent me:

Member must purchase tickets for this match. The only practise matches that Members are entitled to free entry, are those played if the Sydney Swans do not progress through to the Final in the 2004 Wizard Cup.
