The only reason we got it a couple of years ago was Fox Footy needed a test run before the Wizard Cup in their first year.

Half time:
Essendon 5.2 8.4 (52)
Sydney 3.2 5.3 (33)
ESSENDON: Matthew Lloyd 4, Nathan Lovett-Murray 2, David Hille, Jobe Watson
SYDNEY: Amon Buchanan 2, Heath James 2, Jarrad McVeigh
Similar to the 1st qtr, Heath kicked the first 2 goals of the quarter but then Essendon kicked the last three. I wonder who's playing on Lloyd?Comment

Second quarter report from Bombers site, for what it's worth -
Mark Mercuri made North Sydney Oval his own in the second quarter, dominating the game across half back and setting up many forward thrusts. Mercuri was simply dynamic and on more than one occassion showed outstanding courage. He may just have found himself a new job.
The other two standouts of the second quarter were again Matthew Lloyd and Nathan Lovett-Murray. Lloyd kicked two more goals, one the result of an outstanding contested mark in the goalsquare. Lovett Murray got plenty of the ball and looks a senior player in the making.
Ted Richards got more of the ball in the second quarter, his marking was a feature of his game. In the midfield it was Justin Murphy and Jobe Watson who won plenty of the ball. Watson has been tireless and his tackling has been outstanding.Comment

Message live from Des and Julian,
It's bloody hot!
We can't kick or mark!
Schneider is sitting in the bay beside the CS!
About 5000 people there!
Lloyd seems to be on fire!
To the first point, I say pfft, it's 43 degrees at the moment under my pergola and 50 degrees in my backyard. Well it could be hotter but that's all the thermometer goes up to.
Anyway that's a bit of an update.Last edited by anniswan; 14 February 2004, 04:14 PM.Comment

Oh well, I'm not going to lose sleep over this result (though I most likely will because of the weather). I really think other than giving us a chance to blow out a few cobwebs and being able to blood a few of the kids, this fixture is of no real value to us.
I wouldn't be surprised if we get beat next week as well, after all whats the point of peaking in March when you want to be peaking in September.Once was, now elsewhereComment

We lost. 10 goals to 12 and we had one more behind, can't remember how many, sorry.
Crowd was about 7000.
Some good signs from some young guys. Amon played well, as did Jarrad McVeight. Meiklejohn looked good.
We had very few in the senior side that played. Jude played most of the game. Schauble was stand in captain, but I didn't think he was on the field all that much, Jude seemed to have the on-field role.
Craig Bolton and Saddo played. Saddo played a stronger second half. Goodesy also played. Most of the rest of the team were youngsters, including LRT, Ablett and Sunny. Thought LRT and Ablett were good.
Heath James was in a shoulder bandage after the game. Not sure if it was preventative or he had hurt himself. He didn't seem to play the second half (I think). He did take a good mark in the first half which had him go to ground. Fingers crossed.
Mark Powell didn't play.
The guys looked VERY hot. Several were in the ice jackets at the breaks and even during the game. Whilst they were warming up along the sidelines the trainers were keeping them cool with wet cloths.
That's about all I can think of at the moment.Dream, believe, achieve!Comment

Final Score Bombers 12-8, Swans 10-9
Swans best IMO: McVeigh, Buchanan, LRT, James, Fixter
Matthew Davies got plenty of the ball.Comment

the endeavour was definitely there, but the skills, well, its the start of the season - they will come as we get further into the season ( I hope!!!).
One of the positives for me were seeing the senior players going up to encourage a couple of the rookies after some things didn't go their way - Goodesy giving one (Rogers IIRC) a pat on the back in the 2nd qtr despite being outmarked in the goalsquared in a body-on-body situation, and Craig Bolton doing the same to another who centred a pass on centre wing during the 3rd qtr that went over the head of the intended target and resulted in a Bomber goal.
Looking forward to next weekend's game, without really worrying about the result. IMHO, at this time of the season, its the means, not the end that count.
I'm on the Chandwagon!!!
If you cannot compete for the premiership, it's better to be young and exciting than middle-aged and dowdy.
