I think I've seen enough of Cressa to pick him from a crowd. He was sitting in the stands just behind the Swans bench, and there were about 10 other players sitting around as well.

It was quite funny to see them all gawk at 2 hotties that walked past. Lucky some were wearing sunnies, cos they might have lost their eyeballs otherwise.

cmon, DPW you can't tell me the at least 5 holding the ball decisions against us were kosher.

There were quite a fair number of holding the ball decisons that were a bit doubtful. Maybe the umpires were just a bit rusty and confused about all the new rules they have to follow for a couple of weeks. If they umpire like that in the middle of the premiership season, then that's somethig to worry about.

Sorry, I thought the umpiring was reasonable, a few doubtful one's each way regardless I never factor the umpires into any result.

I agree. It was obvious early that if you made no attempt to get rid of the ball, even if tackled very early, you were going to get pinged. Whether the players were advised of the new interpretation, who knows. As far as I'm concerned, I'd like to see this interpretation taken through to the home and away comp. It would sure save on a helluva lot of unnecessary ball ups.

This comment should probably be on another thread, but if they are going to change the interpretation of the holding the ball rule to be less tolerant of the player trying, or not trying, to release the ball then they will have to be harder on the defender as well. What seems to have crept into the game more of late is the practice of the defender holding or dragging the ball into the player attempting to get rid of the ball. For mind this contravenes the spirit of the game and if caught the defender should be up for a 50 metre penalty.

Wouldn't surprise me if cressa was there- geelong were taking on whichever side won the match.

I wouldn't exactly say 12 points or whatever it was against the Bombers was a bad result, and certainly it wasn't a belting!

I do't know why people are getting so worked up - it was a preseason game that nobody takes seriously with all the rule changes etc. We got whooped last year too and look where we ended up! come on people, give the guys a real chance (i.e the season proper) before opening a can of supporter whoop-ass on them!

I thought that we did okay last year in the preseason comp, but then I saw that we didn't even win a game. It could have been the year before when we won a game or two. Shows how the preseason comp isn't the best way to judge how the teams are going to go in the season proper.

Buchanan looked much more mature, and with a bit more experience will make the grade.

Ablett looked workmanlike, and McVeigh looks all class, and both will slot nicely into the seniors when needed. Dempster too looked comfortable at that level.

Meiklejohn is still really green, but every time I see him I am impressed by how physically strong he is in one on one contests. He'll be a useful back-up.

Rogers and Bevan are both too good to be on the Rookie list. Rogers in particular is ready for senior football, and I reckon he's the big find so far this season. If Fixter's down for the count, then Rogers must be promoted straightaway.

Unfortunately, LRT and Sundqvist don't seem to have come on at all since last season. In contrast, Schneider played like a hundred gamer, not a novice.

Goodes, Saddington, Schauble, Fosdike, Kirk, Bolton, Maxfield all looked like they are progressing nicely. Hall looked like the usual BBBB, but with a broken nose.

The rest looked like what they are, youngsters playing out of their class. Good experience, but.

most of the iffy holding the ball calls were from another swan jumping into the contest and bottling up the ball like a carlton player had it

Definitely a new rule interpretation from where I was sitting. It was 5 to 1 against the Swans in terms of tackles that would have been ball-ups last season.

I didn't think the umps were biased, but they did make more "lucky" calls in favour of Carlton. But thusually happens to the winning sides. Nice to see that Barry was penalised again in our forward fifty when the defender was pulling him. Some things never change.
