Oh well, just another under-educated (about non-Vic clubs) critic who will be proved wrong for the 2nd season on the trot!
I think Essendon may just struggle a bit this year, don't ask me why I think that, It's just a hunch.

Over the past ten seasons, West is averaging 13.3 kicks and 11.5 handballs per game. Over the past three seasons, his averages are 12.6 and 14.4.

Over the past three seasons, Black is averaging 12.1 kicks and 12.1 handballs per game.

Greg Williams was also king of the handball, but didn't stop him being a sensational player.

How Westy got the B & F last year over Johno or Smith is beyond me.
West won it by a mile and the Bulldog supporters seem happy with it, so those that follow the club seem to think he is good value. He's won 5 B&Fs now.

Wouldn't mind someone like West in our side - 122 clearances - that's pretty awesome!

granted, however, the young talent around at the moment is pretty high, and if mcveigh were to win the RS, it would mean that we wouldve found someone worthy of filling a few holes... a young midfielder to step up is crucial to our season

Yep - I agree with that. Would be a huge boon for us.

Don't disagree with the sentiment of your post, but bear in mind that last year's winner (Mitchell) was a midfielder from a club that missed the 8, and he beat some pretty decent (and hyped) talent like Polak, Ball and Wells.

once again granted, however - you forgot schneider - im more referring to team dynamics in terms of the swans, hawthorn's problems dont lie in their midfield, it is their structure and inconsistent forwards... our main area for concern is our midfield, therefore, if mcveigh were to win, our midfield would surely be a whole lot better with his inclusion and where our team lacks would be on its way to being solved - which would then in theory grant a higher place on the ladder, injuries aside...

thats the contradiction IMO and the lack of knowledge of the swans becomes apparent for these so-called experts, one of our weaknesses would be close to being solved by them picking mcveigh as rising star but we would slip down the ladder...

i hope this clarifies my point a bit better...

Fair enough. See where you're coming from, and certainly agree that unearthing a new topline midfielder would go a long way towards answering one of the areas of uncertainty about the Swans.

I suppose it depends on what you value more in a team. Westy is getting most of his kicks around half back it seems:

                        2003
                        West: 3 Goals 5 Behinds
                        Black: 16 Goals 14 Behinds
                        Johnson: 42 Goals 23 Behinds
                        Smith: 6 Goals 7 Behinds

Smithy is getting more shots on goal than West. If Westy could kick 20 a year, the Dogs may have won a few more games!

                        Just a thought.

Who really cares what a crapped out reporter predicts, they do this every year just to prove how smart they think they are. The truth is, the are more often wrong than right. If anyone could predict the results of the final 8 b4 the season starts, they would be winning every footy tipping comp in the country.

Every year people write these predictions coz they have nothing else to write about!

I love it when they predict a bad year for SS, coz it gives them more incentive to prove these worthless reporters wrong.

Agreed last year only Robert Walls saw us coming before the season started, in fact many Melbourne journalists couldn't see us coming until the finals started.

Goalkicking is not his role, never has been. He gets his possessions all over the ground and he's their leading player for I50s. Scoring is not the main problem for the 'Dogs - it's defence. Not everyone can be a goalkicker. Fact is he is a great player for the Bulldogs.

I find it interesting that we brook little criticism of Swans players here yet it seems rather easy to find faults with highly-regarded players from other clubs.
