As for Schneider, I don't think he is an automatic inclusion, at least not coming straight back from injury. Aerobic capacity isn't his strength (at least not yet) and a month of restricted training won't have helped him. I agree he did all that could have been asked of him last year - and then some - but he still needs to back it up with a solid second year. Many players have had good debut years but then struggled the following year. If we reckon that a second year player (at senior level) who is essentially still a "burst" player off the bench is an automatic inclusion then maybe our depth isn't really that great.
The proper season starts in a couple of days. Lets evaluate Schneiders form in say Round 6?
The way you have put it you havent even given him a chance to prove himself in his second year.
But I too am cynical of small forwards who have a steller year but then tend to fade out.

Sorry, that was certainly not what I intended to suggest. I'm a huge fan of his. The skills he showed last year were outrageous at times and I love the way he goes about his football, especially his infectious enthusiasm. I also think he has the potential to be far more than a small forward - I have him down as my hope for a Paul Williams type player.
All I am trying to say is that he is not yet a proven long term player who can be expected to walk back into a team (especially one that has reason to believe it will closer to the top of the ladder than the bottom) after a month's lay-off from a soft tissue injury.

[B]Also our tall, defensive depth is still to be tested. It's good that we have James and Rogers who look ready to come in and play a role but neither is really tested at the top level. And if we lost one of Saddo, Leapin' or B2 on top of Schaubs then things are looking a bit thin on the ground. I reckon a back six that included James, Rogers and Powell all together would cause us a few nervous moments.
[B]
When I think about it, it's not that we lack someone who can reach over and play a good punching defensive type role, it's more that these guys haven't been fully tested when it comes to our trademark rebounding from defence.
Leo
Tiger
B2
All exceptional at setting up play downfield, Jamesy, Rogers and even Powelly are not yet fully tested.

I wouldn't want to trust Willo in a shut down/rebound role on the likes of Brad Johnson and other top HFFs. He's too attacking to play like Chris Johnson.

I would expect Williams to become a sweeper and rebounder as well as the cool, experienced player, in the back half, much like I think Mercuri will be at Essendon. Schwass started to do something similar, but unfortunately just seemed to lose interest in football.

Not this season ? Surely not. He is our premier midfielder - we have Maxfield to perform the above role.
No, not this season as I think he still has a valuable role to play in the midfield. However, I suspect we might seem him occasionally do a stint at HB, which will gradually increase next year.

It should free Kennelly up to play a bit further up field.
He can still be as damaging running through the centre and on to half forward as he always has been.
It should free him up from lunatics like handjive from Collingwood

Wow Liz, that would have to be the understatement of the century! If Roos starts with that backline on Sat night, I'm going to need several stiff whiskies to get me through the evening.
As far as Robbie's team goes, it's hard to argue with the personnel, but I'd be surprised if they start in that line-up.
I'm under the impression that Roos has already (in so many words) anointed Saddington as his CHB of choice, so it would be a surprise if he didn't get first dibs in round 1. This would put Bolton at FB, with James or Rogers to take a third tall.
The interesting question is who would take the small forward (say Power, or McRae) or even the nuggety types like Voss or Johnson when they go forward.
Crouch used to be first up for that, but presumably after all the hype he'll get the run-with job on Akermanis. Fixter was the obvious choice, but he's injured. Mathews has got that job on occasions, but he's not match fit. Jude Bolton's defensive skills are scary, Fosdike's are non-existent, Kirk and Williams are too valuable elsewhere.
Makes me wonder if Roos might be forced to find a place for Ablett. He has the necessary body strength and has played defensive roles before . . . . just a thought?

this is where the inclusion of bevan would make sense
