        Agree.
He has had many years to prove himself but continues to outmark rather than punch the damn ball (to a swannie).
        Oh dear...

I just see him as a scapegoat at present. He wasn't the only player to under-perform or have responsibility for clangers. Still too early in the season to write him off just yet in my books. He'll string some excellent games together and make everyone here who is caneing him look a little silly. I can still recall two years ago (on this very message board) where some "senior" posters were seriously suggesting that Goodes was tradeable Saddo will get better. If, by Season's end, this hasn't happened, Saddo may be an excellent inducement for the wooden-spooner to hand over draft picks.

He's not a scapegoat in my eyes - if I was looking for that I'd blame Bally for Saturdays loss, or Goodsey for the Prelim loss last year for getting creamed in the ruck in the last quarter...both of which would of course be absolutely ridiculous.

A scapegoat is picked as a reason to find an individual for poor team results - and that is not what this (constant) argument is about - I have absolutely no issue with how the team is performing - but I have a serious issue with Saddo's performances over the last 2 seasons....
                Regards,

                Boro Boy

I wouldn't write Saddington off yet, but he really needs to improve over the weekend's performance. I think he's been an okay player for us, with some periods of being good, but I really think he needs to step up this year.

There were certainly other clangers and below-par performances, but I don't see him as a scapegoat, but simply as someone who is underperforming. I don't think he performed particularly well last year before his injuries either, or when he came back and was beaten by other players returning from injury.

As for Goodes, I'd just note that he went within a whisker of being dropped in 2002 - that's how bad he was going.

Potential is one thing. Realising it is another. Some players do, some don't.

Plenty of players get criticised - it's the nature of the beast, as it should be when watching professional footballers.

If you turn up the stadium FX on Foxtel Digital, you can clearly hear Saddo yell "Is it true what they say about your sister?" just as Ball drops the footy for his shot on goal.

He is not, and never will be a key defender and I cannot understand why Roos plays him there, though he obviously has his reasons. As a squad player with the occassional run on the back flank he may have his uses - but to be quite frank I've given up on him.

I have absolutely nothing against the boy personally and wish him no ill - in fact I truly hope he shoves my words down my throat - but I won't be holding my breath...
                        Absolutely spot on.

Saddo was a mixed bag on Saturday night: a couple of good things, a couple of bad misses (especially Pike). He'd get the traditional school report: could do better.
I know it's frustrating when he doesn't, but he's good enough in terms of ability and experience to wait through the back-from-injury tremors. I think he's worth it.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

The funny thing was that at half time it appeared Pike was getting on top of Saddo. Half way through the third qtr, everyone was playing crap but it appeared like Saddo may have quietened Pike and I was beginning to think he would be our best player for the qtr. However, just as I started to think that Pike beat him on a few critical occasions and made Saddo look second rate. I wonder if Saddo lacks conncentration - that's a standard school report comment too!
